UE5 & Reallusion Tips & Tricks

Hi @StyleMarshal,

Need your help. I am trying to import a CC4 FBX export to Unreal Engine 5.5.3, got the Auto Setup activate in plugins, and CCShaders folder in the content drawer, importing the character doesn’t give me the AutoSetup dialogue and the FBX import option but instead gives me this

Importing through this option, the character is totally messed up, not sure why the latest AutoSetup 1.37 not working in UE 5.5.3. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? @RL_Tech_Support @Rampa

Ok,. had to resave the character as a new file in CC4 and then export and it took over 1 hour to import with auto setup plugin 1.37. but now there is a weird texture bug showing up and flickering. This is in UE 5.5.3. Also after saving, closing the project and restarting the project, the character imported forces the GPU D3D to crash.

Transferring the character using iClone and Unreal Live Link works seemlessly but the Auto Setup has some weird bugs and corrupts the project as the character gets processed. @RL_Tech_Support Please have a look at this issue. Thanks.

Hi Jeasy! Bassline/StyleMarshall is very busy with work I think at the moment.

Where is that character from? I can try it on my end if that helps, if its a free character from somewhere.

Ok Jeasy I just tested it with Kevin

EDIT: YOU MUST follow the ‘new process’ with 5.5. The old standard process doesn’t work - you need to disable INTERCHANGE plugins to stop the problem occuring that you’re seeing. Unfortunately there’s only a Youtube video with this info, and not written instructions so I typed it out on my website:
https://virtualfilmer.com/how-to-transfer-characters-from-iclone-8-5-to-unreal-5-5/

in iClone (8.52.3605.1) I opened the Kevin speaking project, and went file > export > FBX. Then chose unreal, and exported.

Second, I downloaded the latest unreal auto setup from Reallusion:

(Which is Version 1.37.7211.1)
Then I made a new 5.5.3 UE project, quit unreal, copy and pasted the “content” and “plugins” folders from the auto setup directory into my unreal project, then reopened unreal. I made sure to check that the logo for auto setup was in the top ribbon in unreal, and it was.

Third, I imported the FBX I exported from iClone. It came up with the auto setup popup, and I chose hq shader.

EDIT: If you don’t see the standard AUTO SETUP popup, it means you need to go to EDIT > PLUGINS, search for INTERCHANGE, and disable all interchange plugins, then restart unreal and try again.

Then in the next popup I chose all the specific settings that the instructions page says to. [EDIT: DON’T DO THAT. ITS OLD AND OUT OF DATE]

Installing Character Creator & iClone Auto-setup for Unreal 4.

It imported - took a minute or so.

EDIT: You can’t import a character into Unreal 5.5 if you have “Import Animations” enabled. It will mess up all the morph targets. You need to follow the exact process here instead:

Looks like you did not import a fbx with a skeleton or any character…

Hi Toby,

Yes I know all these steps no doubt, plus understand UE well enough as a UE Gold Authorized Instructor partner, been having issues with the plugin itself. Thank you for the video. I’ll investigate it on UE front. Found that if you transfer the character from iClone using Unreal Livelink in iClone, the issues don’t show up. The HQ shaders of Auto Setup are breaking when importing as FBX manually using the Auto Setup. Animation doesn’t work on import but then does on second import.

lol ok just trying to help

Hey Guys… i need help… using 5.5.3 and I cant seem to scrub audio for proper lipsync…whenever I scrub… it will start the audio even before there’s any visable wave sound in the audio track and when i stop scrubbing it will continue to play for a few miliseconds after… making it IMPOSSIBLE to lipsync anything… what can i do??

Hey Nildo …

Works fine for me. But if you have a heavy scene it is good to increase the media cache memory.

Or double click on the audio file in the content tab and switch “Loading Behavior Override” to “Force Inline” …

Hey Style and crew :)…

please see this video https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-nnbMAOUgB7ipigPi1MApe5cgddQ0OkV/view?usp=drive_link

you will see what i mean … the inline thingy does not work either… the cache media i dont think its an issue… for me it does not work… :(.

@Style… i dont mean to doubt you  :)…but ARE YOU SURE it works on 5.5.3 on your end ?

I once had a similar scrubbing issue in the timeline of a video editor. Played fine on the previous version of the software. Failed after installing a new version. Fixed after updating the audio driver.

5.4 plays well… after a few more tests on 5.5.3, yesterday I found that at least by scrubbing WITH THE KEYBOARD will kinda work :(… better than nothing i guess…

Hello,

OK… I have been using UE and CC4 for quite some time now. Once I updated to 5.5.3, my imported CC4 characters simply do not look as good inside UE than it does in CC4.

Also, choosing the HQ option just prior to importing yields really bad texture results. I have had to always fall back on the STD textures for the characters to look anything close to what they should look like.

Any tips on getting these characters to look as good as they do inside CC4 ?

Thanks !

Do you have a picture? Could be virtual texture is on, but I have to see it.
No problem here with UE5.5.4

All free

Awesome ! :
