Help with licensing

But it’s simply that I already owned ic/cc on 2 computers and was ok.

Even if we only went with the fact I just purchased iclone “additional seat” for $499 in May 2025, the fact still remains I spent 500 for nothing. I still don’t have an extra license and can’t get a refund. So what now?

I once made the mistake of buying an additional seat, assuming that it was an additional installation (which it should have been given the price), but it only allows you to use the software from a single license on two computers simultanously, which in my case is useless. I’m and old hand and even I am confused by RL sometimes.

Why would you buy an additional seat/license if you did not want to use iClone on more than one machine at the same time?

I understand him. There has been so much change around licensing, I don’t’ understand. If someone has a license already that enables on 2 machines. Why would they even offer an “additional seat” for 499 if you can’t use it. 1. Ditch the wording. It isn’t an extra seat. Just remove it all together so people don’t spend half a grand for nothing.

I still don’t have the promotion that I paid for. This is horrible.

studioplaceofficial you do have what you have paid for. You have purchased two seats for iClone 8 which allows you to install and use iClone 8 on two computers. Both these computers can be in use at the same time.

I think what you are getting confused about is that with a single license you are permitted to install on another computer (such as a laptop) BUT you are not permitted to use both computers at the same time.

However, when you purchase a second seat for the same license, you DO NOT get an additional 3rd install. You still only have two installs, but the difference as already mentioned is that you can use both computers at the same time unlike with a single license.

As I understand the licensing, one license gives you the permission to install iClone on two machines, but only one machine can iClone at any one time (e.g. you start a project at work on your office machine, turn that off, leave and, when at home, you continue the project on your machine at home, that should be possible, because when the license server checks, only one machine is actually running iClone). However, if you want to keep the machine at the office running all night (perhaps for a long render job), opening iClone on your machine at home would require a second seat license because the license server would notice that the office machine is still running iClone.

Now, if @animagic says that this feature is useless to him, I have to assume that he does not want to run iClone on more than one machine at a time and this is why I was wondering why he bought the second license in the first place.

Animagic as I understand has two separate license of IC8 and not additional seats, I don’t know if its in same account.
So two four installs and 2 at same time per key.

Because I was confused about the meaning of “seat”. When I realized my mistake it was too late. However, I keep iClone/CC on four machines for various reasons. For example, to keep one machine at an earlier version when there are major upgrades. So that is useful. However, an extra seat is useless to me because it keeps the total number of installs the same.

I’m afraid that if we keep talking about this we will all be utterly confused. :confused:

This is what I paid on April 13th 2025 from RL. I already had ic/cc installed on my home and studio computer. Can PeteRL tell me what I can use this license for? I don’t have any value for this purchase at all.

  1. I can’t install additional seat.
  2. I can’t get a refund
  3. I can’t get an escalation/ignored

I literally spent $500 for something I can’t use, been trying to get clarity on what I can do with it for a month and then RL says, sorry… too late - no refunds for what we sold you that you can’t use!

I have nearly 600 assets purchased from yall store… This was truly a mistake spending time and investing in this company. No one should be handled this way. I have not made another purchase since this bs.

I don’t need it on 4 machines… i’m just simply being ignored at this point. I’ve had this request going for nearly 2 months now.

As previously explained, Reallusion licenses are available in two categories: Single-Seat and Multi-Seat. The number of license seats determines how many computers can install and activate the software under the same license.
If you subscribe to our workgroup service, Multi-Seat Licenses can be automatically shared among workgroup members, with administrators having the ability to centrally manage and allocate licenses.

The additional license for iClone 8 that you purchased on April 13, 2025, upgraded your Single-Seat License to a Multi-Seat License.
Please note that a Multi-Seat License does not include a backup installation seat—it permits installation on one additional device only.

If you need to use the software on a third device, you’ll need to purchase another license (i.e., a second additional seat).

We sincerely appreciate your understanding.

Good afternoon! I am requesting an escalation. In May I paid for $499 for the iclone 8 license which gave me the cc5 bonus. Can I please have the iclone license added to my account. I paid for this outright… Even if we don’t discuss the 149 for previous purchase, THIS purchase in May should cover. If you cannot help me, please escalate this. There is no other explanation right now, we feel ripped off!

and with this, we are simply done with RL. We will sunset all operations both on education and me personally. I cannot support a company that treats its customers this way. Even if I was 1000% wrong, this is not the way to treat any customer, regardless of who they are.

There no way in heill i’m purchasing anything else, yet along buying another subscription. RL has probably over 10K worth of purchases from us. We are done!

and when you are buying licenses, it doesn’t even tell you which one your buying!!! this is bs. any decent company would of said at least, since you can’t use your purchase, here’s a credit. Not even that ! FAILURE!

Its very simple you bought two licenses and you can install on two PC and use on both PC simultaneously.

Now e.g. I have single user license
I can only use this license on one PC at a time.
I can install my single user license on two PC but i can work on one PC at a time.

You have exactly what you have paid for.

so if you paid for this AFTER YOU ALREADY ARE using a single license on one PC at a time, why would someone be offered an additional seat? I purchased 499 for “additional seat” when I didn’t need it. Respectfully and calmly went back and forth with tech support about it for a month and then she said I missed the refund period. this is bad.

I do NOT have what I paid for and no one is looking at this receipt! If i can’t use it, why can’t i get a receipt? What did I even spend the money for? What can I even do with it? why cant I get back my money? Like guys, seriously! !

Like WT F gets this $500 that I spent for additional seat. for the mto come back behind and say, well that actually chagned your licensing… no it didnt’! it wasn’t anywhere in the EULA at the time! I didn’t need to buy by this logic!

I paid 149 for an additional seat for cc4. Why!!! if doesn’t mean additional seat. I’m sick and tired of people telling me I can only use them on one machine at a time as if I haven’t been saying I agree with that for a year! Please stop telling me I can only use it on one machine at a time. I’m a researcher for dc… my groups and I have purchased over 20K in assets alone from this company and this is not how you treat customeers.

But here I pay 499! and I just don’t get anything!??!?! jsut a license hanging out there i’ll never use or never get value for!

This would be a third installation or fourth installation, depending on how many laptops you use. So exactly what you originally wanted.

@studiopalaceofficial - I have answered this multiple times now but for some reason you are not taking in what is being explained.

I will try one more time, but then sadly I will have to close this thread if the question keeps getting repeated over and over again. It is pointless if you are asking the same question and I’m giving the same answer in an endless loop.

So I will try and explain this for you as clearly as I can one more time.

  1. Your original purchase of iClone 8 allowed you to use it on ONE computer only. It also permitted a backup installation onto a second computer, but only one computer could be used at any one time.

  2. You then purchased a second seat for iClone 8 which now means you can run iClone 8 on TWO computers at the same time.

  3. So what your second iClone 8 seat purchase has given you is the ability to have iClone 8 in use on two computers at the same time rather than just the one with a single license.

  4. So to clarify, you have purchased two seats for iClone 8 which means you can install and use iClone 8 on two computers at the same time now. Support has shown you the two computers you currently have iClone 8 installed on. If these are not the computers you wish to use, you can just deactivate one of them and install on another computer (as I explained previously).

I really hope this clarifies the situation.

Pete, Ok… let’s work there then. I appreciate your support. I understand your policy, I hope you can address my need. It’s important for the direction and plans to be as clear as possible. Here are my last questions:

  1. What happens when a user reaches the deactivation limit on a multi-seat license—the counter is still going and have limited activations left. Will a user face any restriction after or have to purchase again?

  2. I never asked or agreed to having a single additional seat automatically converted to a multi-seat license as part of the transaction. It’s the opposite of my request and was explained AFTER I purchased “additional IC8 seat for 499”. I need to work across 3 devices non-concurrently and need to know the cost.

  3. Is it possible for a user to receive credit if they accidently purchase a multi-seat license they won’t use? In this case, it didn’t specify on the transaction, I was told it would be auto-converted by support AFTER transaction.

  4. Your EULA changed three times since 2014, specifically from October 10th 2024 000241 12:44:41GMTUTC to now — are more immediate changes coming?

As a reminder, I work in application licensing for a very large government as the training CIO. I do product research in education and AI on dozens of tools. I need you to be as clear as possible on how you can help me. We understand and have exhausted this policy. If there is nothing you can do to help, I understand.

I can assure I am not this complicated. I just have to explain things to other people also and the right people are, unfortunately, very turned off right now by from what I’m testing on. There are upsides to being reasonable to the issue at hand, I can assure.
