Is "Water" the issue?

I’ve noticed a lot of crashes with iC 8.52 since I upgraded a few months ago ( I know, I was the last holdout) but this is what I was afraid of when I switched from iC7 which has been pretty solid.

The common denominator for me “seems” to be Set/Water. It will crash with a particular camera or other cameras, usually at the same frame each time. If I switch-off-visibility or remove the Water object it won’t crash.

I’m doing a scene located in a swamp…so these “Water-related” crashes are VERY frustrating!

I have tried different Water objects but all seem to react the same way.

It will crash while playing or scrolling in the Viewport or while Rendering the scene.

Has anyone experienced this issue or have any ideas on a solution?

The GeForce RTX 3090 drivers are up to date by the way.

I have re-booted the system to see if that helped but no change.

The scene is not big just a couple of avatars and a few props.

iClone Scene Crash

Haven’t used the iClone water for years…
Seems there has not been an update on water
Some give me a missing texture warning (iClone 4 mentioned!):
Missing
I was able to find those in “Shared Templates/Video/Water”.
Added several cameras but I was not able to produce a crash with any of the 16 water templates in Scenes & Effects folder…
I am also on iC 8.52

Another reported setting that can cause crashes is Environment Reflection in the Preference settings under Real-time Render Options. See if that is turned on and turn it off.

Like toystorylab I haven’t had any crashes with Water.

I also pulled up an old project with large water, vegetation and a few characters from the era of iClone 6. No issues viewing around with different camera angles.
It might be something specific with your project.

Thanks for the thoughts folks! I have had the issue of missing water textures as well and I’m still using the old textures… that may be an issue that I will keep exploring. I have turned on and off “Environmental Reflections” as well with no obvious result I’m afraid. Yes I’m sure it’s something “specific” but I’ve had this issue over multiple projects not just one… of course “water” is still a common denominator in them all.

Hi Mark

If you are getting consistent crashing with this project, perhaps you could report the issue in the Feedback Tracker and let them have a link to the project. They will then be able to do some testing and hopefully diagnose the cause of the problem.

Thanks Pete. It has been with multiple projects but I was thinking that’s what I should do. Soon as I get a break
