I just saw an add for Character Creator 5

Those who have actually heard of Reallusion

Yeah, big movie studios pay for the support. If something doesn’t work on iClone and you have to wait days until the support responds and weeks or months until bugs are fixed, that would be unacceptable.

Companies like Adobe, Foundry or Autodesk will probably give you dedicated consultants you can call that will give you remote help instantly.

The good news is that I don’t have to pretend to be anything. I show my work, people like it (or not) and move on. To me animation is one tool to make movies, which is what I’m interested in, because I enjoy doing it.

Soon, with the advancement of AI, it may be a moot point. We’ll see.

Alot sooner than most people may know. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I know that it is a bit late in the game…but will there not be a user “Wish List” for CC5 feature? If not, I am still happy to see an upgraded version.

There is a wishful features category on the forum, but CC5 is currently in the final stages so no additional features will be included before release. After that you can of course request new features. It is best to also enter them in the Feedback Tracker.

EDIT: I think I’m mistaken. There’s wishful content only I believe. This new forum is different.

You can’t purchase a CC5 bundle at present. This will only be available after launch in July when the free CC5 pre-launch offer is over. To take advantage of the pre-launch offer you need to purchase $399+ of other software or content to get CC5 FREE.

Wishful feature requests should be posted in the Feedback Tracker. Of course you can freely discuss wishful features on the forum but they won’t be logged unless posted in the FT.

CC4 owners of Headshot 2, SkinGen Premium and the ZBrush Face Tools will receive a FREE upgrade to the CC5 version of these plug-ins.

Please Note: Headshot 1 and the Iray Plug-in are NOT supported in CC5.

Content packs for CC4 already purchased from the Content Store will be usable in CC5 such as any characters, clothing packs, morph packs etc.

You won’t have to repurchase anything you already purchased for CC4.

Honestly, the only thing that would make CC5 worth it to me right now is a system for creating JCMs within the program. They could have profiles based on character types (skinny, muscular, large), the ability to turn certain ones on or off, and include drivers for each. Maybe even a rudimentary muscle system, one that only works with predefined muscle profiles. I think the biggest complaint I see about the characters is the lack of sophisticated joint deformations, but it’s been largely ignored

Yes a JCM system would appeal to the iclone base that renders everything within Iclone for certain.

Typically such native features are useless to the external “pipeline” users that Reallusion seems very keen to attract as they do not transfer with FBX export to Blender, Maya,Max ,C4D or the Game engines .

This has been one of the many the reasons
Daz genesis has been utterly ignored by users of the major 3DCC’s.
The Genesis Character models ,with their JCM’s and Daz
“HD morphs”,
look really impressive inside Daz studio with Iray
but once exported to FBX all of those Details are left behind unless you are using an Alembic/USD based export animation pipeline which presents it’s own pitfalls

Okay. Thanks

Okay, I asked before without an answer, so here I go again.

I’m using CC4 for characters for a game. I have a TON of them (upward of 100, anyway). I love, love, love the CC5 quality that was shown off (and I will have instances in which I’ll need to use high res close-up versions of most, if not all, of these characters, so switching to it is a no-brainer). So, my question is, will there be an automatic converter for characters using the CC3+ base to whatever base CC5 is using, or at least some pipeline that might make it sane to recreate the likeness of over a hundred characters in CC5, or will I need to start from scratch?

(asking so that I know if I should continue refining the current characters or if I should wait until July in case I do need to restart)

Good question, and only RL knows the answer (Peter?), but in the past there have always been conversion options from earlier to later CC generations.

It has been mentioned that iClone will get an update to make it compatible with CC5.

If one doesn’t upgrade to CC5 will it still be possible to send characters back and forth between the updated iClone and CC4 without issues?

I bet you $10 it’s still going to use the CC3+ base, just with different options available in terms of maps and facial control. I doubt it’ll be a new character standard, just like CC4 never got their own

You won’t need to start from scratch. The new HD features of CC5 can be applied to existing CC3+ characters.

Are there any plans for a CC5 standard? Maybe one with advanced rigging options or with more sophisticated topology?

Hi Gerry

There’s still some things to be finalised but you’ll certainly still be able to use CC4 with iClone 8.

It’s also possible that the CC5 compatible iClone 8 update will only be available to those who own CC5. Those with only CC4 may not receive the update and their functionality will stay the same as now.

However, how all this will work has not yet been finalised but for sure those with only CC4 will continue to be able to use it with iClone 8 after CC5 releases.

I’ll take your $10 because I seem to have read that various areas of the mesh have now higher density so that makes it a different base. From the product page:

Compared to CC4, CC5 HD characters offer up to 16 times more mesh detail with two more subdivision levels, providing greater flexibility in showcasing a wide range of character types and making them ideal for close-up renders in film and television production.
