No, that wasn’t it.
Later, I looked at the table and peeked underneath it, just to see how it looked. I wasn’t doing anything with the lamp anymore, but I found the lamp there! I moved it up to place it on the table, and it disappeared again! For a moment, I felt like iClone was teasing me, haha. But it’s not a big deal. I’ll just leave the problem for now and figure it out later.
I had a fun idea, though. In future videos with the same background, I’d like to move the pillows around on the sofa. Just a small, subtle touch to make it feel like someone actually lives there. Easy to do, but kind of fun!
There are magazines on the table now, and in the future, I want to move them to the sofa, like someone left a mess. One difficulty: a cup and saucer somehow got stuck to them. That wasn’t how it was originally, but I’ll figure that out later too.
What do you think of the idea? So, just making some minor touches in the room to give the impression that someone lives there. It has nothing to do with animation, and it’s subtle, but I think it adds a bit of charm!
That’s always a great idea. I typically build a set from scratch but if I start with a “pre-built” set I always, as time permits, try to modify it in big or small ways. Kinda make it mine.
But I would really like to figure out that lamp issue…that’s weird. Now you know about “attaching” and “linking”. Real important. If you right-click on a object a menu will appear and if you hover over 'Attach" or “Link” you can see if something is attached or linked and then you could un-attach or un-link an object from another which might help in moving things around.
That’s one of the things I like about iClone. You can express yourself in so many different ways! It’s like being a director, animator, interior designer, and architect all at once. If you like building sets from scratch, maybe there’s a secret architect hiding in you! Are you using Character Creator for that?
I came across this pre-made interior I absolutely love (it even includes a beautiful bedroom I plan to use in the future), and I’m totally happy with it. Which is just as well, because my content library doesn’t offer much variety—many folders even show up as empty.
As for the lamp: since Camilla’s standing right in front of it, you can’t really see it anyway, so it’s not a priority right now. I’m focusing on tweaking Camilla first. Once everything else is set, I’ll circle back and deal with that lamp.
And the magazine and cup and saucer seem to belong together. The “Attach” and “Link” options didn’t work to separate them. I thought I had moved the cup and saucer on their own, but then I saw in an old project that they were grouped in the same spot there too. The object is called Magazine_C—maybe as in Magazine_Cup and saucer.
You are amazing! It worked!!! Thank you very much. Now that the lamp is on the table, I can even see it in the background behind Camilla, and it looks nice!
I’ve encountered another frustrating problem I just can’t fix. I’ve been at it for a while now but I can’t find the solution.
Whenever I tweak something in the scene—like adjusting Camilla’s position or even just zooming out—it gets recorded. That’s not what I want. I managed to stop the Camilla motion by using Animation > Remove Scene Animation > Keep First Frame, which worked… this time.
But the lamp in the background is another story. It keeps stubbornly moving downward when I play the scene. I’ve searched, tested, and tweaked, but nothing helps. There are no visible keyframes on the lamp, and using Remove Object Animation or Remove Vertex Animation via right-click doesn’t stop it.
That is part of the iClone “philosophy”, so it is somewhat “dangerous” to changes things you don’t want to animate at any frame except 0.
However, zooming should only be “recorded” if you have added a camera and that one is active.
With regard to the lamp: If you already tried “Remove Object Animation” you may want to check if the lamp is “attached” to anything else that is animated, meaning any keyframes would not be on the lamp itself but on the object the lamp is connected, attached, or subordinate to.
@animagic: I found in the Webinar Motion Editing for Fighting and Other Interactive Scenarios this mentioned (I have it from the transcript):
1:14:30 I’m going to throw a basketball in there props let’s go to
1:14:17 basketball now this one uses some Physics um because the basketball has
1:14:22 physics so um what we need to do with the basketball selected let’s just uh um
1:14:30 hold on let’s double click it because I think the yeah okay the root um goes on here we don’t want the basketball to be
1:14:36 going through the ground plane whenever you have physics … etcetera.
That sounds like my problem!
Thing is, in the webinar, he went to Create > Physics > Infinite Plane, see picture, and it didn’t work.
Of course, I first selected the lamp. I was after the last keyframe and tried it. No results. Then I went to 0, did it again, also no results. I saw that the system did something, but I saw no effect on the lamp.
As to your suggestion @Nirwana: I have indeed a while back made a new camera. which is active. But there are no animations. I have deleted those. And I don’t know that the lamp is connected, attached or subordinate to anything. If that is so, it was by accident, because I did not intentionally do this.
Yes, that may be the problem. As I said before, iClone may record animations that you did not intend.
Can you make the project file available to us so that others can take a look at it? Or do you have any third-party assets in the project (i.e. ones that do not come with iClone out of the box but were purchased or acquired separately)?
It is difficult to troubleshoot such an issue with just descriptions to go by.
Thank you so much for taking the time to look into it, literally! How can I share the project file? Via OneDrive? If that is so, here is the link: Camilla 01.iProject.
The problem is that the lamp was set to “Soft Cloth” which means it is dynamic and falls (i.e. is subject to gravity).
You need to set the dynamics to “None”:
It worked! I had tried using the rigid body, but then red lines appeared around it, which didn’t seem right to me. I didn’t check “none”. So now I can move on to my next challenge.
I can’t thank you enough for all the help you give us newbies!
However, I’m pretty much a beginner in iClone myself and that is probably not going to change all that much since I only use iClone for certain steps in my workflow, so there are a lot of things I don’t need and therefore don’t even try to learn about iClone (e.g. cameras, lighting).
“Rigid Body” is also dynamic and should only be used if you want an object to be dynamic. “Rigid Body” does not mean the object does not move (change its position in the scene), but rather that the object does not deform. “Soft Cloth” is often used for dynamic clothing on characters (such as skirts or other non-body hugging types of clothing) because these objects need to deform with the character’s movement.
You did not notice any “deformation” on the falling lamp because the entire lamp was falling at the same speed. However, if the lamp had hit a “collider body”, it might have deformed depending on its mesh density.
I only use iClone for certain steps in my workflow, so there are a lot of things I don’t need and therefore don’t even try to learn about iClone (e.g. cameras, lighting)
I think that goes for everyone. As for my project, I have a specific purpose in mind. Everything that is not necessary for that purpose, I don’t use.
That said, I do have a habit of coming up with complicated ideas. For example, I’d like to use lip-syncing in certain situations — and it has to be flawless English. I can record Google Translate for American English or MS Word for British English, but I find intonation also important. That’s why I plan to consult an AI tool from an open-source project. I know there are some available, but I’m not sure yet if they meet my quality standards.
In addition, I want my future videos to start with the camera flying in through the window. I also want to change the camera angle in certain scenes.
Plus I want my avatar to do some chair-based exercises at times. And at some point, my avatar should also be able to hold dumbbells — though I don’t have those yet
So… I’m definitely not done yet.
But first things first. I need to get one full exercise working properly.
But if I manage to make all of this work, I think I’ll be satisfied.
Any reason (other than price), why you a looking for an open sourced AI engine for your British region english?
I use the free built in “read aloud” voices of ChatPGT and screen record the playback and then extract that audio for
use in Cartoon animator and Iclone
