Hello everyone,
I’m excited to participate in the Reallusion 2026 Character Design Contest and share the development of my original character, Vajra: Legacy of the Last Immortal.
This project is an original science-fantasy interpretation inspired by Ashwatthama, the immortal warrior from the Mahabharata. According to tradition, Ashwatthama bears a divine gem on his forehead and is destined to wander the Earth through the ages. That idea became the foundation of my character.
Rather than recreating Ashwatthama directly, I wanted to imagine what an immortal warrior might become after surviving thousands of years into a distant technological future. Ancient spirituality, mythology, and advanced cybernetic technology merge into a single being who has evolved without losing his identity.
Character Concept
Vajra is an immortal ascetic whose body has been gradually reconstructed over centuries.
His flesh has been replaced where time demanded it—not to make him less human, but to allow him to continue carrying the burden of immortality.
His design combines:
- Ancient Indian ascetic clothing
- Cybernetic prosthetic fingers and forearm
- Mechanical muscles integrated beneath organic skin
- Sacred bead necklaces and traditional ornaments
- A mystical forehead gem that stores and channels thunder energy
- Futuristic engineering inspired by divine symbolism
The forehead gem is the heart of the design. It serves as both a spiritual relic and a technological energy core, releasing lightning that travels through the cybernetic components of his body.
Design Goals
My goal is to create a believable balance between:
- Indian mythology
- Science fiction
- Realistic anatomy
- Hard-surface design
- Cinematic storytelling
Instead of relying on heavy armour, I want the technology to feel like a natural extension of an immortal body, allowing his spiritual presence to remain the focal point.
Workflow
Character Base
Sculpting
Clothing & Hard Surface
Texturing
- Adobe Substance 3D Painter
Presentation
- Blender Cycles
- Unreal Engine 5
I look forward to sharing the journey as the project evolves. Feedback and critiques are always welcome.
Thank you for following my work!

Update #1 – Character Blockout & Design Progress
Hello everyone!
Here is my first progress update for Vajra – Legacy of the Last Immortal.
During this stage, I focused on establishing the overall silhouette and refining the character’s identity.
Progress
- Refined the facial anatomy in ZBrush.
- Began designing the cybernetic forearm and fingers.
- Blocked out the ancient-inspired clothing.
- Continued exploring the balance between mythology and advanced technology.
The character is inspired by Ashwatthama, the immortal warrior from Indian mythology, reimagined as a futuristic guardian who has survived through countless ages.
My next step will be designing his signature weapon and refining the overall proportions before moving into high-frequency details.
As always, feedback and critiques are greatly appreciated.

Hi, Great job !
May I ask a question, about how you handle changes in the base topology of the CC mesh. Since I want to take the character back to CC and maybe test it with animations and etc, when I change something like the mecha parts that you’ve added on the hands I end up with some complications.
Thanks ! Keep on Keeping on

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind words.
For this project, I’m trying to keep the original CC5 base topology intact as much as possible. The cybernetic fingers and forearm parts are created as separate subtools/meshes rather than replacing the base hand geometry. This makes it much easier to update the character and test animations later in CC5.
For areas that require modifications, I usually avoid changing the underlying edge flow unless it’s absolutely necessary. My goal is to keep the character compatible with CC while using separate mechanical pieces for the hard-surface details.
I haven’t reached the rigging and animation stage yet, so I’ll definitely share my results and any challenges once I test everything in CC5. Thanks again for your interest!

WIP Update #3 – Designing the Legendary Bow “DRONASTRA”
I’ve been focusing on the primary weapon for my character over the last few days.
The current blockout explores:
- A futuristic recurve silhouette inspired by traditional Indian archery.
- Layered mechanical armour plates to give the bow a cybernetic identity.
- A circular energy core at the grip that will become the power source for the weapon.
- A balance between handcrafted ancient craftsmanship and precise mechanical engineering.
The next stage will focus on:
- Refining the hard-surface details.
- Adding asymmetrical engravings and mechanical variations.
As always, feedback and suggestions are greatly appreciated. I’m looking forward to refining this weapon further before moving into the detailing and texturing stages.
Thank you for following my journey!

WIP Update #4 – High-Poly Costume Complete
The high-poly costume for my character is now largely complete.
This phase focused on building layered garments that reflect the long journey of an immortal warrior. I explored different fabric types, weathered edges, leather elements, and subtle surface details to create a balance between realism and storytelling. Rather than making the clothing heavily armoured, I wanted it to feel like equipment that has been repaired, worn, and carried through countless battles over centuries.
As always, thank you for following my progress. Feedback and critiques are always appreciated.
