I am trying out the new video mocap integration. So far it works well as long as the actor has both feet on the floor. However, I have found that if the actor is sitting on a chair with one foot lifted off the floor (like sitting on a bar stool with one foot up on the bottom rung of the chair), the character “falls” until both feet are on the floor, resulting in an unusable mocap.
I have not been able to find any settings to prevent this from happening. I appreciate that the concept of a “floor” is important in video mocap, but I would like to get an accurate mocap of this seated actor, with one leg elevated. Any advice? thanks
More context - I realized that I can have the mocap do just the upper body, which doesn’t have the “falling” problem. However, in this scene the actor is doing things with his legs that are interesting. So if I use this option, then I will have to animate the legs by hand. It’s a compromise, but will at least let me get this scene done.
Great to hear that you’ve found a temporary workaround! That sounds like a smart compromise to keep your scene moving forward. I’m curious, which mocap system are you currently using? It would also be great to know your mocap settings.
For mocap, I am trying out the new integrated Video Mocap plugin from Reallusion. So far it is pretty good. The integration is pretty clean (from a workflow perspective).
The plug-in is free, but costs 250 DA points ($2.50 USD) every time you generate mocap for a new video. Videos are capped at 60-seconds in length. I have been uploading 4K AVIs with my actor (filmed on iPhone), and the results have been pretty good and usable. In my tests, the total time from video upload to processing to applying the mocap to a character is about 5 minutes or less.
For the recommended use of Video Mocap, we suggest keeping both feet on the ground. In addition to the one-foot-off posture while sitting in the chair, we also recommend avoiding movements such as upward jumping, horizontal swimming motions, or rolling. These types of actions may result in suboptimal mocap tracking.
I tried this a few days ago and all went well but today I have a new vdeo added for processing but the editor refuses to open ?? Its an mp4 under 1mb. As far as I can see there have been no updates since first release. Suggestions please.
