Video Mocap Reviews

If you used the application it would be great to hear/see your experiences.

Here is mine.

First I’d want to thank RL for opportunity to test out the video mocap. Using the DA points was a bit confusing but it was more than generous enough amount to see the results.

Also want to point out that I have a mocap suit so that affects my opinions. The mocap suit gives better results but has a lot of moving parts and can be cumbersome to put on/take off. Also super expensive. Still I’m very happy with those results.

Overall, I would say the results from the Iclone Video Mocap have been solid. I had an early issue with sliding feet but that turned out to be because I was using a low poly humanoid character. Once I applied to a CC character the issue was resolved. Sliding feet was an issue very prevalent in other video mocap I have used in the past (also one of the main reasons why I bought the suit) so its nice to see it largely fixed in this app.

I think the overall weight of the hips is often off when filming from the front. Cleaning this up is relatively easy by setting the correct pose at the beginning but this is an issue I don’t have with the suit. There’s other small issues (hand poses are not great) but as everyone says you should expect to have some clean up in all mocap.

I did not test the two person video but I think that could be very useful for certain scenes. In fact this could be great for interaction scenes if you can get the video angles worked out.

The one minute time limit is a bit short. I think a 2 minute max would be better with 3 minutes being best. In my experience I have plenty of performances that exceed one minute.

Price wise I’d say its a bit on the expensive side. Optimally I would like to see some variation in the time and pricing. It would be nice to be able to choose 30secs, 1 minute, 1.5 minute and 2 minute clips with variable pricing closer to 75-100 DA points per 30 secs. That would likely be the point where the ease of use would make me dive into my wallet.

I used my video mocap bonus points to see if I could transfer video game pro wrestling motions to iclone. Sometimes the motions looked like they might be salvageable with some cleanup. Other times, the motions would go in very unpredictable crazy ways. Overall, even with complex wrestling motions, I think the plugin showed promise.

Thank you for the feedback. I have passed this on for review.
