[Unreal Live Link] Unreal crashes when transferring character from iClone

Hello,

I’m having issues transferring a character (that was created in CC4) from iClone via the Unreal Live Link plugin. I’m using iClone 8.52, Unreal Engine 5.4.4, Unreal Auto Setup 1.35 and a trial version of Unreal Live Link.

When, from the Unreal Live Link plugin panel, I click “Transfer File”, having only selected the character in the Transfer List, it starts exporting from iClone without problems. It starts importing into Unreal also without problems. However, Unreal crashes some time into the automatic importing process.

I managed to transfer a character without any problems at first. This was an actorScan character, so I’m not sure if Unreal crashes because of the character for some reason.

I also tried to convert the CC3+ character to an actorBUILD, but the same issue happened.

I have had some similar issues of Unreal crashing when importing characters (fbx) using the Auto Setup plugin prior to trying Live Link. However, I managed to import after changing some import setting in Unreal. However, I’m not prompted with import settings when transferring via Live Link, so I’m not able to see if that solves the issue, unless there are some settings somewhere that I don’t know of.

I was able to control a character I had previously imported to Unreal via Auto Setup by applying blueprint to it via the Live Link plugin menu. So, that could have been a workaround. However, I cannot transfer motion to this character, because it requires that I have transferred the character first (via Live Link). IClone gives an error message that the character or parent folder can’t be found when I try to transfer motion to it. So the best solution I think would have been to solve the transfer issue.

I am also experiencing crashing with unreal live link when transferring characters that previously had no issue - I am in UE 5.2

Sorry to hear you experiencing problems with Live Link.

For anyone experiencing crashing problems, please capture a screen recording video showing the steps you take leading up to the crash and send this video to our Technical Support team along with your full system specs including graphics card. They will then try to help you overcome the issue. Thanks.

Make sure you only transfer mesh and motion one by one not together, it happened to me too when I try to import mesh and motion at the same time in UE through Live Link.

I will do this but to be honest with you I am here because of the total inability of technical support to do anything about this other than blame unreal engine or tell me to update my drivers. It’s extremely frustrating.

I am only transfering the mesh.
