Unacceptable CC5 File Compatibility Limitation

Hello,

I am writing to express my frustration regarding the current handling of CC5 iAvatar files within iClone 8.

As an iClone user, I find it unacceptable that I cannot open or use files created with Character Creator 5 unless CC5 is installed on the same device. This requirement creates an unnecessary barrier for collaborative workflows. In a team environment, it is very common for one member to prepare and share CC5-enhanced files with others who may only be using iClone. Forcing every recipient to install CC5, even if they do not need it, simply to load and use the file in iClone undermines efficiency and creates unnecessary software bloat.

I hope you take this feedback seriously and address it in a future update. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Make sure you write this also in the Feedback Tracker, otherwise the developers will never see your inquiry.

Did you save it as iAvatar?

Yes it was saved as iAvatar following the standard workflow between Character Creator and iClone. There doesn’t appear to be any genuine technical requirement for CC5 to be installed, which makes it feel as though this limitation is intentionally imposed to encourage iClone users to purchase an additional license.

It is strange. I assume you have version 8.61 of iClone installed?

@TechAmulets

Thank you for the feedback. I will pass your comments on for review.

With the release of CC5 and iClone 8.6 content is now shared between the two products. This helps reduce hard drive space and stops duplication of files. However, as only CC5 contains the core files required for CC5 HD characters, this is why it is required to use those HD characters in iClone.

I think that it also fair to say that as CC5 introduced use the new HD characters, and is required to create them, it is assumed that the vast majority of users will have CC5 installed alongside iClone.

Thank you Pete for the reply, let me just confirm that the current version of iClone is 8.61 which states in its release log that it fixed this:
With CC5 not installed and only CC4.6 available, using Edit in Character Creator or Send Current Pose in IC8.6 displayed a “CC not installed” message.

Is there a workaround to solve this? for example CC5 users can share necessary files with iClone users

Still, CC5 is touted as a universal character generator whereby the characters can be used in external applications like Unreal without the need for CC5 installed. So why doesn’t that option exist for iClone?

Hi… The latest version is iClone 8.62. This should have resolved issues sending characters back and forth between Character Creator and iClone.

Hi Ani… The “universal character generator” for use with external applications is via FBX export and in that regard iClone is also included when using FBX. However, for sharing content in Reallusion’s proprietary formats, the current requirement is to have both CC5 and iClone 8.6 installed on the same computer because they share the same content library.

That said, I do think this may need looking at again for the reason TechAmulets expressed.

Hello Pete,

I appreciate your follow up but we have tried the latest iClone version 8.62 and it didn’t work. Apparently when importing the iAvatar it checks the license of CC5 not the necessary files! This is causing a problem with our workflow and delaying production… I hope you can resolve this soon.

Hi TechAmulets

Just to let you know I have passed on your feedback for review. As soon as I have more information about a resolution for this issue I will update again.

However, if you did report this issue in the Feedback Tracker then you can expect a status update from the team there.
