Skinning issue: Cloth vertices stretching on legs in Unity, but fine in CC. Transfer Skin Weights doesn't help

I’m running into a skinning mismatch between Character Creator 5 and Unity.

Software versions:

  • Character Creator 5
  • Unity 6000.3.16
  • Export plugin: Auto Setup for Unity v2.2.6

Issue:
The cloth mesh around the legs looks perfectly fine in CC5 — no visible deformation or stretching. However, after importing the model into Unity and playing the same animations, I’m getting noticeable vertex stretching on the cloth in the leg area. The rest of the model and rig behaves as expected.

What I’ve already tried:

  • Exported strictly using the built-in Unity preset via Auto Setup.
  • Confirmed Skin Weights in Unity are set to 6 and more Bones.
  • Re-applied Transfer Skin Weights in CC — no change.
  • Rig is set to Humanoid, avatar configures correctly (all bones green)

Any pointers or ideas on what else could be causing this discrepancy would be much appreciated

Check the Build Settings and the Quality settings. Depending on the pipeline there’s settings in a few places that limit the number of skinned bones.

Thanks for the advice. I tried that, but nothing changed.

Did you set the max bones on the model too?

You can probably get away with 6, but on a dense topology like that, you may need 8.
