Hey Anyone who’s great at rigging in CC5
I’ve got this robot that I have to rig. (End Goal it will go into Unreal)
I can get the rest of the body to rig more or less, but the hands are a nightmare. I’ve even checked the UV to make sure they’re clean UV’s.
In the process of rigging, here is the left hand
with the guides, and then when i bind, the skeleton is off. I’ve tried adjusting the bones, i’ve tried reweighting, but it just makes it worse. IS there anyone out there who can tell me what i’m doing wrong so i can fix this?
Aside from the thumb (which is not positioned correctly in accordance to the human rest pose standard due to a specific robotic hand design I suppose), I see that the main issue here is a skin weight. Accurig is having difficulties in calculating proper weights for one reason or another (maybe because of the thumb).
Your best bet is to rectify that manually either in Modify > Skin Weights in CC or better externally (in Blender). You basically need to make sure that each finger bone only influence a corresponding finger mesh and not the mesh for adjacent fingers…
I do not have nerves to show the routine in CC as I mostly do this type of work in Blender. And you have to inspect every bone in armature for finger mesh influencing. So very quick with 2 methods - painting with 0 weights and removing vertices from the wrong bones influence…
Rigging complex mechanical hands in Character Creator 5 can definitely be frustrating when the automatic bone placement goes haywire. Double-check that your mesh’s pivot points and scale are fully applied before dropping the guides, as even a slight offset will break the binding. Instead of fighting the auto-weights, you might want to manually lock the finger bones and assign weights using strict vertex groups or rigid binding for hard-surface parts. Once you clean that up.
