Hi,I need basketball animations, there’s some animations from Reallusion and others in the marketplace or Content store but none have the dribbling basketball that match the animation like smart accessories do. I see this ActorCore has an image of a person with a basketball ,so does anyone know if the motion has the ball that goes with the animation? I know I have to purchase the ball separate but can I drag it on the ActorCore actor animation with the ball.
I have tried to animate the crossover dribbles and things but doesn’t look good.
Thanks in advance.Tim
“Summer Crowd Set Vol. 4” does not contain any motions/animations, this is a pack of actors only. While basketball motions for the players are available in the Marketplace, AFAIK any ball motions need to be animated by you; I’m not aware of any motion pack that also “automatically” animates the ball.
Basically, having to animate the ball yourself is part of the reason why I have not tried any ball-game animations yet (and if I did, I would not try to animate the ball in iClone, even though that is probably possible).
There is nothing really to animating a ball in iClone. It’s pure fun!
Once you have a motion, you animate a ball with ease in and out transition presets and control the preset strength to match the hand most of the time.
Nothing like a tutorial but rather a quick showcase I’ve done a couple of years back.

Well, I was not just talking about a relatively simply motion like dribbling in place, but animating a ball game, i.e. switching hands handling the ball, passing the ball from player to player, having the ball fly through the air, having the ball hit or miss the basket, fumbling the ball, etc. in a way that looks realistic/physically correct. It may require a combination of physics and keyed animation.
Before mocaps animators were crafting motions manually. It’s just require a bit of experience, patience and effort. Fairy simple combo and respective timeline (character motion is from a set I had in BVH)
Yes, of course. It is still required for some things that cannot be (easily) mocapped, such as motion in or under water (see the Aquatic Legends pack). And your example looks pretty good (and seems to include, as I mentioned before, both keyframes and physics), but, you are also not an iClone or animation noob. Not everybody has that kind of knowledge and skill.
That being said, in this case, the poster explained:
which suggests to me, he is looking for an out-of-the-box solution that would not require “manual effort” and/or more advanced knowledge, and, as far as I’m aware of, there is no such thing for iClone.
Thanks for the reply’s .
I will try the transition curve technique shown in the video but it’ll take some time to get the more complicated ball animations perfect ,when you have impatient clients.
I looked at Reallusions Kids Adventure Pack ,which has a couple of dribble and shot animations which has a YouTube demo advertisement that shows the ball silhouette ,I figured I may put that part of the video on an image plane in iClone and try to do some rough manual matching like suggested.
If someone starts making Smart Props for these sports animations they will make good money in the Content and Market Place.
The animo_mocap packs are great but I can’t pull the trigger on any sports because of that reason,
I messaged them for suggestions on animating the ball since the’d know best ,they did the studio mocap but I haven’t heard back yet.
I mentioned Actorcore because I do have the
Social Group Bundle and when I use any of the Actor groups in IClone ,they come with the animated phones, coffee cups ,park bench etc. that automatically appears when you drag them on screen,so I figured perhaps the Summer pack that shows the basketball guy in motion would do the same thing.
I also downloaded a bunch of basketball moves sprite sheets that shows the player and ball movement frame by frame, I will try to manually create what I need.
Thanks
The Social Group Bundle is sort of a “special” product because it is a bundle of an actor pack plus “enhanced” motion pack (i.e. with the “smart” props). There are also a few other MD Props, but, so far, nothing for sports.
Well, AFAIK they are not specialized on iClone. The motions that animo_mocap offers (and I have a ton of them) were originally made for UE, etc. So I’d be surprised if they have a solution for animating a ball in iClone. After all, the motions were originally designed to be used in games and I have not the first idea how animating a ball would work in a real-time game environment.
For an animation in iClone, I would assume that the ball needs to be “manually” animated, like in the examples @4u2ges showed. Also, once you combine several motions into a sequence (probably requiring some editing in iClone), you would have to make the ball animation fit that particular sequence. Again, I would expect that to be become pretty complex fast.
