Hello,
I am a licensed CC4 user developing a commercial video game and need clarification on the Standard License’s “one specific commercial character per component” rule for the included base characters (ccAvatars).
I see there are a number of characters in the “characters” pack that comes with Character Creator 4
CC3_Kevin.avatar
CC4 Kevin.ccAvatar
CC4 Camila.ccAvatar
CC4 Susan.ccAvatar
CC3+_Caleb.ccAvatar
CC3+_Katherine.ccAvatar
CC3_Jody.avatar
Neutral_F.ccAvatar
Neutral_M.ccAvatar
CC3_Base Female.ccAvatar
CC3_Base Male.ccAvatar
Questions:
Do male and female variants of each neutral base count as separate ccAvatars, allowing one distinct commercial character per variant?
Do the pre-built characters above each count as separate ccAvatars under the Standard License? And can be use once each inside my video game?
If I modify any, does the result still follow the one-character limit per base, or can I create multiple variants without Extended License?
The Standard and Extended licenses apply to applicable content purchased from the Reallusion Content Store or Marketplace.
The embedded content that comes with Character Creator and iClone (and any variations generated using other embedded content) does not require any additional licenses and can be used in commercial games freely.
However, if for example you customize the Kevin or Camila characters using morphs, hair and clothing purchased from the Content Store, then you will need to purchase the Extended License for that additional content if you plan to use it on more than one character in a commercial game. application or VR.
So just to clarify, if say I never have purchased anything from the content store or Marketplace, I can use any item from the embedded CC4 content (including hair, clothing, characters, morphs that came with the program) freely in my game? I can treat this embedded CC4 content like it has an extended license?
For instance if say I use the Character Kevin, I can make multiple different characters for my game with him using the embedded morphs in CC4?
Or I could use the same hair or t-shirt that comes with the embedded content on multiple characters in my game?
(None of the above would involve any form of character creation system within my game, just a variety of different NPCs)
I also have a second question if you don’t mind, in the marketplace / content store, many items are labelled as “extended ready” does this mean the same thing as having an extended license?
Does this mean any item that is labelled with the “extended ready” license on the marketplace / content store would automatically give you the extended license for it upon purchase?
Sorry for the drawn out questions, I really want to make sure I understand all of this before i proceed! Also this effects whether I upgrade to CC5, so i want to make sure I understand.
Hi Pete, I noticed that there was just an update to the EULA for Reallusion. Have there been any changes in the updated version of the EULA that would change anything in regard to the answers you gave me in this thread that I should be aware of?
Thanks! So if i’m understanding this correctly, they’re expanding their permissions for commercial usage in games, to allow for Standard Licensed items to be used more than one time? If so that’s awesome!
Yep, they essentially removed the extended license and updated the standard license to be the extended license.
Unfortunate timing for me because literally the day before I bought assets using the extended license because I was unsure whether I would only use it once. But I’m not going to complain, it’s good for everyone that this change happened.
With the removal of the Extended License, you can now do everything you could do with the Extended License, but now only requiring the Standard License.
However, there are still some restrictions which you should be aware of, so please check these out in Term 2.1 of the EULA using the link below.
