Proper Use of Audio Script File

I am new to CT5 and animation in general… but loving it!

I am creating narration-style animations, so I don’t really have a character actor to apply a script to. I am assuming that the “Create Script” function is only usable when applying it to a specific actor. Is this correct?

So far, I have loaded my voiceover script to the SoundFX1 timeline… and it seems to be working fine… except that I am having program crashes about 1 or 2 times a day.
CT5 support R&D reviewed my project and an older crashdump file and suggested removing the audio file. If the audio file is removed, how do I sync my script with the animations?

(The audio script is approximately 8 minutes long. The average project length is approximately. 20 to 30 secs long)

Is there another way to use the audio voiceover with CT5 other than the SoundFX function?

Thanks,
Jon

Are you saying that your voiceover file is much longer than the individual project? Just trying to understand.

If so, why don’t you split the voice file up to suit the length of each project.

Another option is to render the animations without the voiceover file and then assemble it in a video editor.

This is odd… I posted this response 4 days ago… I guess it didn’t go through.

Thank you for your response animagic.

Yes… for convenience sake, I have been importing the entire vo script in .mp3 format. And, yes, I am considering breaking the vo into smaller segments.

I currently turn off the volume and render the animations then assemble the segments in my video editor.

The program renders fine and very quickly… usually about 10 to 15 seconds.
It only crashes at random times while in the creation process.

I am planning to try my vo in .wav format to see it that changes anything … then I will try breaking the vo into smaller clips.

I guess my question is… What is the normal way of importing a voiceover file? Do you (experienced CTA users) import it into the FX timeline? or Am I missing something?

It seems that all the documentation regarding script & vo’s points toward specific character creation and having them have animated speech. I haven’t found any specific instructions on what I am trying to do.

I really appreciate your comments!
I am enjoying learning this program!

Can’t say much about CTA practice because I’m an iClone user, but one way to add a voice over file would be to use it with a character and then move that character off-screen or make it invisible. It may still choke on the length though.

With MP3 files you have to check the bit rate and limit it to 128 bps. This is similar to what you would do with WAV files: limit sample rate to 48kHz and bit depth to 16. I’ve been using MP3s with iClone lipsynching and that has been working fine. For the final mix I render as WAV from Audacity.
