Performance Problems and Crashes with CC5 (and Iclone8)

I’m using a Razer Blade 18". It has a GeForce RTX 5090 (24GB GDDR7 VRAM), an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, and 64GB RAM. According to the FPS counter, I never use more than 7GB of VRAM and (at most rarely) 12GB of RAM. And yet, the performance is abysmal, sometimes choppy, and the crashes are the worst part. If anyone has any suggestions on what I could do, I would be very grateful. Since I don’t have these kinds of problems with any other programs, I suspect the issue lies with CC5 and Iclone8. It’s simply annoying and significantly disrupts my work.

Hi…

Sorry to hear you are experiencing performance issues.

It is certainly not normal to experience poor performance on a powerful computer like the one you have. As a comparison, I get very good performance on my own personal computer which is a less powerful system (RTX 4080).

From my experience, the most common cause of performance issues is when you have customised your 3D Settings in the Nvidia Control Panel.

Both iClone and Character Creator work best when using the Default “Application Controlled” setting in the Nvidia Control Panel. So if you have tweaked your settings, I would advise setting them back to default and see if this improves performance.

One other thing to check is that iClone and CC are actually using your RTX 5090. On systems with switchable graphics, you may actually be using the embedded graphics chip instead. Although unlikely, it’s worth checking this in the Nvidia Control Panel to be sure.

However, if you still have the same issue after checking the above, then I would advise contacting our Technical Support department who will try to help you track down the cause of these issues.

Hey, I recently had performance issues with CC5 as well. It was running slow which was the first time I experienced any of that with the RL software. I thought it was the recently downloaded Fashion Gen or the AI Rendering tool but the one thing I changed that fixed it was turning off G-Sync in the Nvidia Control Panel (changed to Fixed Rate) just for CC5. Hope this helps.

I have the same issues. I think it’s just the rendering system in CC5/iClone. The UI and lighting feels old and outdated. It’s great for creating characters and animations, but I would never do final renders in iClone. I usually export to UE and render there.

I have a close system, RTX 4090, Ryzen 9 7950x3D, 64gb ram. Performance is… not great, and I have had crashes that have corrupted entire project files. I just save a lot now and make sure I have backups. One day hopefully they’ll update the rendering engine behind CC5/iClone because it definitely feels and performs like it’s held together by duct tape and dreams.
