New to CC4 and Reallusion pipeline, clothing options?

Hello all! I’m an a UE5 developer with a primary focus on programming and gameplay design, so not much of an artist. I recently picked up the CC4 Realistic Human bundle to help create assets for my games. I love how much detail I can put into a character with this software but I do find the clothing diversity a bit lacking, understandably I know as a non-artist I’d need to pay for these assets. The marketplace is huge and honestly a bit confusing to navigate for a newcomer, so my question for the more experienced users here is which clothing packs do you recommend to someone starting off to get the most options (i.e. mixing and matching, changing material/color, etc)? As I’m sure you know this software and it’s addons are not exactly cheap, so I’d like to minimize the amount of money spent on additional clothing packs as much as possible for the moment (I’m also considering buying into Iclone8 which is an additional cost).

What genre are you working in? (Contemporary, futuristic, historical?) Also, if you are developing for UE, there are a couple of ways you can use Reallusion characters with UE marketplace clothing assets in UE (none too easy, but such is the price to play).

For my current project it’d be modern/contemporary. I only have a few characters in my game as well, so probably some casual outfits would be fine. I’ve been looking at packs but also considering learning Marvelous Designer and making my own outfits for characters. Still trying to figure out the overall workflow for Character Creator and Unreal Engine as well, I’ve got my main character in-engine but I need to rig him for facial mocap… A lot to learn!

Are you planning to change clothing within the game?

As far as modern clothing packs, Reallusion’s latest are obviously good and optimized for iClone, but quite spendy. For an earlier modern day project, I got the Adventure Series Outdoor Clothing by adolf.antareus and that was great quality and variety and covered my needs (plus, he doesn’t charge extra for the extended license), but obviously that’s for a very specific setting and story. My own game project is fantasy/medieval, so I don’t have any other experience with artists who do modern clothing, unfortunately.

I think Marvelous Designer for simple clothing is very doable, though, and there are excellent tutorials.

Good luck with your game!

Not planning to do any outfit changes in this project, just trying to keep it simple! Yeah Marvelous Designer is looking more and more like the choice for me to be honest, but I’m already learning the CC/Iclone pipeline as well lol, so much to learn.

Thank you! Good luck with yours as well!

Hi, I’m Alley (part of BBAlley) and you mentioned wanting to change fabrics/colours - so all of our packs are done using the built-in substance graphs in CC4 and are colour mapped, which allows you to launch the appearance editor and change up fabrics/colours on the specific part of the cloth you want, i.e. change camo to plaid on the precise area you want to change, i.e. buttons, zippers, and other parts of the cloth are a separate colour, unaffected by the change. I believe we are one of the few developers who design this way. We are always open to new suggestions or ideas.
