Misalignment in Dual-Person Mocap Animations

Hello,

I’m using motion capture animations from your “Home Life” and “City Life” series, particularly those involving two characters interacting (e.g., hugging, shaking hands, etc.). I’ve applied the corresponding animation clips to two characters in iClone, but they appear misaligned — the interactions don’t line up spatially, as if each animation is playing in isolation.

My question is:

  • Are these dual-person mocap animations pre-synced in terms of position and timing so that when applied to two characters, they automatically align and interact correctly?
  • Or is manual alignment always required (e.g., using dummies, motion alignment tools, or root offset adjustments)?

I’d like to understand whether these mocap packs are designed with built-in synchronization between the paired motions, or if aligning the characters manually is an expected part of the workflow.

Hi…

These packs do not come with positioning synchronization.

You will get approximate positioning, but because characters come in all different proportions, you will nearly always need to tweak the starting position and positioning of arms etc. to adjust for the different body sizes.

This is quite easy to accomplish using Edit Motion Layer. You do this by moving the timeline to the problematic frame numbers and then making the necessary corrections.
