Material Merge -> Rig Issue

Hey folks,

Whenever I merge the materials of the torso (Jacket) of this character, the rig gets messed up afterward—the pose is off. I think it’s easier to understand with the screenshots I added. Does anyone know how to fix this? I’ve already tried transferring skin weights before the merge, conforming Polygon Reduction, cleaning up the scene, and so on—but I always get the same result! Before the merge, all motions (e.g., Body Rig / Full Body) work perfectly. After the material merge, the torso (Jacket) is off.

I also just updated to CC 4.53 because I thought it might fix the issue, but no luck.

Perhaps it’s a bug, or that function is intended for accessories only. Regardless, there is no reference to “Merge Materials (UV )” in Help (at least I did not find it).

Meantime, while looking for workaround I found the way it would work.

Apply a T-pose to a character (best for skinning armpits).
Convert cloth to an Accessory with Baking current shape option.
Apply Merge Materials (UV)
Transfer Skin Weights
