Learning Weight Mapping - Garry Pye

Just when I thought my new character was finished and ready for market, I put her through some test motions and quickly discovered her clothing wasn’t behaving the way I wanted. That opened up the next chapter of my 3D learning curve. I was going to need to learn weight mapping and physics.

Coming from a 2D background, this was completely new territory. In Cartoon Animator, I’ve relied on Spring Bones to automate movement on parts and props, but that’s not the same as true physics. This time I had to learn how to make fabric move and react in a believable way. Another challenge and another step forward.
