Invalid FBX Key

I am trying to make some clothing for CC3 like I have done many times in the past. Since I don’t have the Pipeline edition, I need to do this the old school way of creating an FBX and then using the Create | Cloth option.

Recently I downloaded the nude FBX templates so that I can generate the FBX file with the clothing content. However, when I use these bases (CC3 Base Plus, Neutral F, Neutral M, Toon Neutral F, Toon Neutral M) and then try to import the results using Create | Cloth option, I get an error saying the FBK Key is invalid.

I double checked that I am using the provided FBX key for the corresponding base (tried both CC3 Base Plus and Neutral M).

What is likely the issue? How can I resolved this?

Hi…

The normal workflow for creating custom clothing is using Create > Accessory as explained HERE. You won’t run into FBXKey issues using this method. Have you tried doing it this way?

I am sure people want to use more advanced and faster cloth fitting and skin weighting apps and import a ready to use cloth on CC base body templates. That was the purpose RL provided those templates in the first place.
Unfortunately, the bases currently available for download are not CC v3 compatible.
I suggest you contact support and ask them to provide CC3 compatible templates from archive.

This only works in the Pipeline Version since Transfer Skin Weights is a Pipeline Only feature (at least it is in CC3). This is why, previously, I did the Transfer Weights in Blender and then used the CC3 Create | Cloth option. This requires the FBX Key. Previously I was able to use this workflow but for some reason now it is not working. I tried new CC templates and the CC templates that I was using in the past but all of them now generate a FBX Key invalid error.

I found the old bases that I was previously using to make cloth. However, even these don’t work anymore.

Not sure which one you have but those definitely work (it has Max and Maya versions - but both work from Blender)… Just tested with CC3 (although mine is a pipeline version v 3.44.4709.1).
Note: Those as CC3 bases (not plus). So when you import cloth with them and then try to apply cloth on “Plus” base a little tweaking would require.

Here is CC3 Plus as well. And I included an A-bind pose which was never available in CC3:

Thanks. Let me try it with those bases and see if it works.

Thanks 4u2Ges.

I did a quick test and it seems that at least the Maya Neutral Base worked for me. Not sure why my copies of those bases don’t work anymore. It might have been a error during the process but I repeated it just to make sure.

In any case, it seems I am back in business (literally).

Tangential question: When I imported my cloth, under Cloth Settings I can set the layer and run collisions. I could have sworn that in the past there was a way to set a “fit” setting where, with the changing of a value, you could do the effect of Blender’s Shrink/Fatten function. Has this been remove since it is essentially replace by the Run Collisions and the Mesh Edit?

Glad it helped. Regarding cloth fitting, it’s still there. Check the “Increase Size” slider at the top when you open a “Conform” panel in Character Creator.

Found the Conform function. Seems I am good now. Thanks.
