If iClone was Santa and was giving us a new timeline

Hi all —
I discovered Reallusion’s tools last year and have been impressed with the power of the animation pipeline. That said, I wanted to share a few timeline-related thoughts and wishlist items I’d love see that may improve usability and workflow—especially for those of us working on complex scenes, long form, and narrative animation.

I haven’t had time to explore whether any of this is possible via Python scripting or plug-in development, but I’d love your feedback or insight into whether anyone feels these suggestions.

1. Ability to Freeze Lanes (Pin to View)
You’ve seen it in excel and google sheets. Stick selected track when scrolling other lanes.

2. Camera Switcher ID Overlay
Overlay ID at all times so we don’t have to hover and wait to know what camera we’re working with. Currently you have to hover over switcher to ID camera, doubling production workflow time essentially.

3 Track Reorganizer (Drag-and-Drop Lane Order) Would be extremely helpful to have this flexibility.

4. Color coded cameras. Ability to change track colors to color code or help ID cameras.

I’d be happy if any of these ended up under the tree for the holidays.

Happy animating.

  1. my biggest workflow obstacle that gives me constant headaches is actor/motion root. RL has added a few functions that are supposed to fix it, but often they don’t.

So yeah if they set it up (could be a selectable option), that the actor - root/motion automatically updates the actor & motion root every time you move and/or rotate the avatar, whether it was achieved using transform or through a motion layer. And if you don’t want to use this option for your own reasons, you could uncheck the option. And ensure the function works reliably, it’s no good having it, if it doesn’t function reliably.

  1. allow us to reliably copy a pose keyframe from one motion to another in the timeframe. Currently, if I try and copy the final motion key on one motion as the first key into the next motion (to prevent the avatar abruptly jumping into another pose), the copied motion key is often ignored. So I end up trying to manually recreate the pose from the previous motion to avoid a jerky change. You can transition between the two clips, but that can cause it’s own problems and sometimes you just want to retain the same pose.

  2. an easy way to ‘untangle’ limb or limbs on an avatar when you can’t figure out why they are twisted. Should be able to move an arm for example into a desired pose and then if it looks all twisted, click a function to best retain that same position, whilst untangling a twisted limb. I’ve spent quite a bit of time trying to get a twist out of an arm/wrist in particular, it can take quite a bit of time to figure out which limb is causing it and how best to untangle without losing too much of the pose. Might be that the upper arm needs to rotate more and less on the forearm or wrist. But it
