It’s disappointing to see that iClone 8 still can’t export transparent videos to remove backgrounds. The .mov format only generates black-and-white outputs instead of colored transparent videos, which makes it less useful. We really need improved transparent export features. Is there any possibility of adding this feature in the next iClone 8 update? It’s been nearly a year since I provided feedback on this, but there hasn’t been any improvement so far. Please add WebM format to get a transparent video.
Hi…
Thank you for the feedback. I will pass this on to the iClone team for consideration.
For now you can still export an Alpha Video or use Sequence Image PNG to achieve a transparent background.
Lossless PNG image sequences would do it, which is actually better than heavely compressed video.
Thanks for sharing this with the team.
When exporting alpha videos, we generally only get black-and-white output. This can be complicated for general users who don’t have specialized knowledge about converting black-and-white alpha video into a colored one—I’m not even sure if that’s possible.
The PNG format generates a large number of images, and when I try to import them into a video editor to convert them to MP4, the shapes distort, creating additional headaches.
Instead of dealing with all these issues, I believe WebM is a much simpler and more efficient way to get transparent video with just one click.
Thanks for your reply. Which video editor do you use to convert PNG images into MP4? This method isn’t ideal because it adds extra steps and increases project time.
On the other hand, if iClone 8 provides WebM format support, we could export transparent videos directly without needing additional conversions. This would be a much more efficient and streamlined workflow.
Almost every modern day Video editor can import a PNG sequence, the free version of Davinci Resolve is a good choice.
Like Autodidact mentions, almost all video editors worth considering can handle this. I use Vegas Pro, but Da Vinci Resolve is a good choice too.
I have worked with professional renderers and most often image sequences are the format of choice because of quality considerations.
I’m using image sequences exclusively and they have many advantages in my workflow. For example, if there is an issue somewhere in a scene I only have to rerender the defective part instead of the whole scene. So that saves time.
Also, some video export formats like MP4 are not good for editing, although they are excellent for final distribution.
Thanks
