I made shoes!

I did it! I sculpted custom footwear for my new Lulu character in Blender and then attached them to my character in Character Creator. And they work!

She can walk, run and bend her feet and her shoes bend and move with her. I was able to break up the materials on the shoes so I could colour and texture each part individually, and I worked out how to hide the mesh of her feet so her little toes don’t poke through the tips of the shoes. I feel such a sense of achievement and pride at this point, knowing I stuck in there and didn’t give up when things got difficult.

I learnt so much about Blender from this exercise. And I have to say, a fun way to learn Blender, instead of doing the boring unrelated and random tutorials, is to pick an item you want to sculpt and start. Then, as soon as you hit an obstacle, start searching for answers on how to do that. For instance, when I was working on Lulus sneakers, I got to a point where I needed the laces, so I went to Youtube and searched “How do I sculpt shoelaces in Blender” and BOOM! up came the specific tutorials.

There is still quite a bit to do with Lulu before she is ready to head to the 3D Marketplace, but now at least her feet will be warm!
