I’m finding it extremely challenging to move a single bone while keeping the rest of the character’s body in its current pose.
Even when I lock the entire body, any attempt to move (or even touch) a body gizmo causes unwanted torsions in other parts of the body, making it very difficult to restore the intended pose.
For instance, if my character is in a standing pose and I want to raise just one arm, how should I set the control points to maintain the rest of the body in place?
PS: Is it possible to have “AccuPose” tag for the forum?
If you just want to raise an arm without affecting anything else, AccuPose is perhaps not the best way. I would simply use Edit Motion Layer instead. You can also combine the two. First you set you basic animation, perhaps with AccuPose and then you use Edit Motion Layer for tweaking.
The main advantage of AccuPose is to have the position of other bones automatically adjusted so that the entire pose seems reasonable (e.g. in terms of the center of gravity), so what you are trying to do sort of goes against the point of AccuPose.
It seems there is no clear equivalence in AccuPose to Body Part Mode of Edit Motion Layer.
There are plenty of other controls to lock certain body parts for movement you may want to play with. But certainly there is nothing to control precision of body parts while moving the other.
It is a lot more like you are physically posing a real person, and they will need to adjust as best they can. So check out the locks as 4u2ges mentions. This video covers them well.
I will try learning better about those “presets”. In particular CP All preset, seems to be the right choice when applying small modification to a pose.
