Help me with rigging Maya import

Hi,
I have been using CC and iClone for a few years, but TBH my CC use has been minimal - changing hair, clothing, tweaking faces a little. I’m far from a power user and it’s a long way outside my comfort zone.
Anyway, I wonder if someone could direct me a little please?
I have a character that was exported as FBX from Maya

as soon as I go into Characterisation, these long shoots appear and I can’t identify any actual bones

In the scene, I have tried setting every node to hidden, including all the children nodes of RootNode, but those shoots are still there. If I hide RootNode, they go, but so does the whole character.

What can I do? Is it something in the export process from Maya needing a tweak, or is there anything I can do in CC4?

thanks in advance everybody.

Those extra bones may be your control rig. Try removing the control rig in Maya. So export the character with just mesh and skeleton only.

Hi ade.p,

The model in Maya may need to be cleaned up. Please check the model’s history for any unnecessary data, as there may also be an issue with the Maya rig.

Alternatively, you may consider using AccuRIG to rig the character. For reference, please see the following tutorial on characterizing humanoid characters:

Thanks!

Thanks @Rampa, we will try that.

Hi Winner, that was the tutorial I was following, but all those projections in my character made it impossible to replicate the steps in the video.

Hi ade.p,

Could you try to export only the mesh and skeleton as @Rampa has mentioned earlier?

Thanks
