G3-360 head on a three-quarter seated body — is this possible?

I’m building a 2D show with two child characters who sit cross-legged on the floor for most of every episode, talking to each other. My illustrator has drawn them seated at a three-quarter angle — bodies turned slightly toward one another, both faces visible to camera.

What I need: the seated three-quarter body, with a 360 head so they can turn to look at each other, turn to camera, and glance at an object off to the side.

I’ve had a rigger attempt it and the result came back with the bodies facing straight forward, which loses the conversational staging. He mentioned that characters with thick outlines don’t work perfectly with G3, and that rotating from a three-quarter neutral gives an asymmetric turn range.

Reading the manual, I found there are angled body dummies under Actor Template > Character > _G3 360 > 1_G3 360 Human > Dummy for 3D Motion — including a “Dummy_2 Front Side” that looks intended for exactly this kind of angled character.

My questions:

  1. Is a three-quarter seated body with a 360 head a workable setup, or does the seated pose complicate it?
  2. Is the Front Side dummy the right base for this, or is there a better approach?
  3. Is the thick-outline issue real, and if so how do people work around it? All my characters have heavy outlines — it’s the show’s art style.
  4. If the head’s neutral is three-quarter, how much of a problem is the asymmetric turn range in practice?

The artwork is already drawn with separated layers. Happy to post images if that helps.

Any guidance appreciated — I’d rather understand the constraints properly than keep paying for attempts.

Hi…

All of the default G3 360 characters that come with CTA5 feature a front and side angle. There are also G3 360 dummies provided that with 5 different angles to help creating your own characters.

So based on your requirements, everything you want to do is possible using the G3 360 characters in a side angle pose as can be seen in the simple setup below (without props).

Pete’s already answered but I just thought I’d mention I use the same G3-360 heads I rig for front facing characters on three quarter side facing characters and they work quite well.

Also, there is no real issue with using outlines on G3 characters if you know how to rig an outlined character correctly. I have a video on my YouTube channel demonstrating how to rig characters so the outlines remain unbroken.
