Export workflow not working anymore

Did I miss something (which is entirely possible) or has the latest updates to CC 5 and iClone completely messed up my preferred workflow? I create the characters in CC 5, then export that to UE 5.6. I send the character to iClone and create my animations. Then, I export the animations as an FBX from iClone and import that to UE, applying the animation to the existing CC 5 skeleton, rather than importing a new skeleton for every animation.

This still works for body movement, but it does not work for face key expressions. If I leave “Import Mesh” checked, there is an option to import morph targets, but if I want to put the animation on an existing skeleton, that option is not even shown.

You can’t tell me we have to import a separate skeleton for every animation, so what the heck is the answer here? I"m dead in the water till I get this solved. I can’t work on any of my ongoing projects.

Hi tacknstock,

If you are using iClone, could you try sending your body and facial animations using the UE Live Link plugin? Please let us know if the issue persists after trying this.

Best regards,

Thanks. I’ll try that. I try to avoid using live link if possible because it can literally take 20 minutes to transfer one character and a simple animation, but if that’s the only way, I might have to put up with it.

Hi tacknstock,

No worries!

Live Link makes the process much easier, allowing you to transfer everything with just one click. In comparison, exporting via FBX can be more time-consuming, especially when your character has many blendshapes that need to be exported manually.

You can refer to the Live Link tutorial in this video:

Thanks

Thankyou so much…!! , I’LL Try…

Thanks for the quick replies. I’ve used Live Link and do like its capabilities, but it’s ridiculously slow to transfer, specifically on the UE side. I don’t think this is RL’s problem, but it does make the feature less useful. I don’t know if other people have found the same thing. Perhaps it’s just my computer.

Hi tacknstock,

Several factors could be contributing to the slow transfer. To improve performance, you could try reducing the SubD level or using the Standard Facial Profile.
