Editing character mesh issue

This has been an ongoing issue for as long as I can remember, just have never got around to reporting it. It’s not a major issue, but it is disruptive to workflow.

After applying clothing to a characters, I sometime find the characters mesh is poking through the clothing. I try the conform function, which sometimes either fixes it or improves the poke through, but doesn’t completely fix the problem. So I then choose the ‘edit mesh’ function from affecting clothing items modify panel. I know I can hide the characters mesh under the clothing, but I don’t always want to use this method.

The problem is when I hit ‘edit mesh’ and the mesh appears, the poke through is no longer visible. If it’s a fairly big area poking through, I can still see it, but if it’s only minor I can’t see it when the mesh is visible. So I’m forced to keep toggling the ‘edit mesh’ button back off, try to remember which part of the mesh has the poke through and then hit ‘edit mesh’ on again and take a bit of a guess at sculpting or editing the relevant faces. Then toggle the edit mesh back off again to see the result. Sometimes it will take several cycles until I’ve successfully edited the mesh sufficiently to cover the poke through.

I face the same problem sometimes. The issue here is, that you probably enabled subdivision on a cloth mesh, which rounds up geometry and as a result shrinks it a bit, which in turn might introduce additional pokes through not visible in normal mode. But the mesh editor only works with original/normal mode. I don’t think they will ever make subdivision transparent to mesh editor as it would make this relatively slow editor even slower. And btw, the same goes to skin weights editor.

I haven’t enabled any subdivision of the cloth. The cloth is unchanged.
Sometimes I used downloaded content from Marketplace other times it’s just the clothing supplied with iClone. Seems to have the same issue no matter which one I use.

Then I am not sure…

But this is hat I meant:

thanks, yeah I’ve never subdivided like that before.
But same issues as that though without subdividing.

It’s been an issue at least as far back as iClone 7, that I have just put up with, but thought it might be worth checking if others have the same issue.

I might submit it on the Feedback Tracker, as it can be very time consuming toggling edit mesh on/off.

You may want to make a video of the issue, or give an example of a cloth. I can’t say I work much in CC Mesh Editor (I do such work mostly in Blender), but still, never experienced this issue on un-subdivided mesh.
