Hello avideau,
very nicely done (and bloody too). Where did you get the dinosaur? One small criticism: The dinosaur’s tongue is very static.
I hope we see more of Regina.

Hi, thanks a lot for your feedback!
I got the dinosaur from Fab. Here’s the link:

I’m actually waiting for CC5 to create all the characters from Dino Crisis 1 and work on more cinematics.
OK, I’m not familiar with Dino Crisis (I’m assuming it is a video game), so I may lack certain background information, anyway:

Hi, thanks a lot for taking the time to write such a detailed review.
Regarding the gun coincidence, that’s a totally fair point. I actually realized afterward that it felt too convenient and kind of just appeared out of nowhere. I won’t make this mistake again
As for Regina’s reaction, in the original Dino Crisis game, she’s portrayed as a very calm and capable special agent. We never really see her affraid of the dinosaurs
About the fact that the dino gives her time to re-arm herself instead of attacking right away, yeah I get that it might seem a bit unrealistic. But it’s something I often see in films, where there’s a kind of Hunter-prey dynamic. For example in the final scene of Predator, when Dutch is badly injured and on the ground, the Predator doesn’t finish him immediately. It pauses, observes, and lets him crawl — almost like it’s toying with him. I was aiming for a similar feeling here. We get a bit of that vibe in Dino Crisis at times. But maybe I pushed it too far in this scene.
About the resolution and overall look, I will make sure to correct that for the next one.
Like I said: I don’t know Dino Crisis, hence I know nothing about this character and her capabilities/skills. My comment is strictly as someone who only has this short clip to go on. Unless you expect every viewer to be knowledgeable about Dino Crisis, it’s something to perhaps keep in mind.
That said: If she is all that capable and fights dinos regularly, she should have known that the pistol would do her not a lot of good (unless the problem was, she missed at that range, in which case she would not be very capable after all). Lots of things to consider… ![]()
True. However, the Predator was a highly intelligent, technically advanced, space-travelling alien that hunted Dutch for sport/as a challenge and not for food. So, unless the dino has been genetically engineered to have superior intelligence (for a dino), I don’t think this applies here (unless, of course, it was just bored and not hungry and therefore into playing games with its prey). My point is, if you want viewers to make such assumptions, you should somehow hint at it; if not, I’ll just go on the assumption that the dino is a “dumb monster” out for food/a k i l l.
BTW:
It’s what I do—provided I think a clip deserves it. Sure, a comment like “great job” is easier and strokes the creator’s ego, but I figure, if someone asks for comments in a forum like this and obviously put some effort into their work, they are looking for insight/constructive criticism and not just validation. Am I wrong?
Yeah, I got it. That’s actually why I introduced you the character. I wasn’t criticizing you. ![]()
No, you’re not wrong. Again, that’s actually why I thanked you. When someone thanks you, it usually means they appreciate what you did so it’s often a compliment bro. ![]()
I get that. ![]()
My comment about reviewing videos in some detail was meant in general, not just with regard to this particular video. In my experience, most creators appreciate such comments, some don’t. Which is fine. It’s all good.
Edit: BTW, I looked at the renders of this dinosaur model on Fab and the ones marked with “Arnold render” were better locking than the screenshots from the creator’s UE demo video for this dino. It kind of illustrates my point about “lackluster”.
Yes, I know Arnold is not a real-time render engine like UE, but for a cinematic piece, real-time rendering is IMO less important than the final look. I also realize that the point of the demo UE video on the product page was not to achieve the best possible render quality with UE; I’m just pointing to this comparison to help illustrate what I meant with “lackluster”.
