DataLink isn't working, "Invalid Import Path" error in Blender

Hi, I can’t seem to figure this out and really need some help. For some reason the datalink is no longer working with Blender (it was the other day). All my software is using the latest versions of the bridging plugins. I noticed in Blender that at the top of the addon’s panel (the CC/iC Link one), right above the red Linked (Local) button, there’s a greyed out “Invalid Import Path” error.

The thing is, I can’t find anywhere to actually set an import path for it to use, not in the n-panel for the plugin, and not in the preferences for the plugin. If someone could help I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks.

That error message means there was no FBX sent via the DataLink.

This can happen if for some reason Character Creator or iClone can’t export the character. Mostly I get this happening when my C drive is full and there is not enough Temp folder space to export.

Check if your drives are full and see if you can export a character manually.

Thanks. My drives aren’t full and it randomly worked about an hour ago (likely wont work again given how often this happens). It brought it into a blank Blender scene rather than the one I needed it in, which was open and connected with the data link. It would be handy if there was a way to set the exact directory to be used, and also if it would actually link to the open file that is connected rather than doing it fresh. Also couldn’t append it from that new file into the old one with the append function.

I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it eventually.

It drops the files in a subdirectory (Imports) next to the blend file (if it’s saved). So if you don’t have full write permissions in the folder with the blend file, it could fail.

If you want to use the open blend file then you need to connect them first. Start the server in CC/iC then connect in Blender. Then it will use that connection rather than make a new one.

Thanks for the heads up about the file locations. I’ll have a look into it today and see if there’s any issues. There shouldn’t be any permissions restrictions as it’s all on my working files drive. Regarding the connection issue, I have been connecting the blender file to the iC / CC file before hitting the send button in either iC or CC. It still just opens new files. They do seem to send animation over just fine though, it seems to be the send avatar that doesn’t work for me.
