So a while back I found out that the classic 1956 film “Earth vs. The Flying Saucers” had become Public Domain and since Ray Harryhausen was the reason I became an animator in the first place, it seemed apropos that I do something to show some love for his seminal work. So I fired up the old CC4, CC5, Blender, Substance Painter, Zbrush and Unreal Engine and got to work… After months and months of work I had found that I was able to get so much character design and creation done so quickly and efficiently that what started out as a simple remake short, transformed into a full blown re-imagining and feature treatment (imagine how Ronald Moore approached Battlestar Galactica and turned it into a complete unique thing whils still showing love and reverence for the original). What I ended up with is a story that is a combination of 1950s Sci-Fi, Atompunk, Film Noir and Japanese Tokusatsu thrown in for good measure.
I am working with a handful of artists who see the beauty of the vision and we are currently looking for voice actors who might be open to volunteering their talents to help us complete the first stage of the project, which is the 15 minute prologue episode. So anybody who is open to collaborating with us on this, feel free to hit me in the DMs.
In the interim, here is some of the previs art ![]()
