Can I create only a floor shadow for my character without affecting the character's lighting?

I would like to create a floor shadow for my character that won’t affect and won’t lit my character. I’d like to be able to control and animate just the shadow of the character while my character does not receive the lighting from the source. How can I achieve that?

There is a special shadow caster option for that. Read about that here: Using Shadow Casters.

Thank you @animagic . I’ve tried this and it’s still casting shadows on the character. Its throwing some really harsh shadows on the character’s face and body. See picture attached with a side by side with (left) and without (right) shadow casters. I’m not sure if I 've missed something.
It’s casting shadows the same way a regular light source would. Any idea what else I can try? Thanks again!!!

I am facing that all the time. You can exclude your character from receiving shadows at all in Scene Manager by setting Shadow control to Cast Only (as oppose to All Shadows). But this “harsh” control blocks shadows for any light/shadow source from falling on a character.

We also have a nice feature - “Exclude Effect” controls, but that does not help in this case at all either, since it sets synchronized Cast/Receive status.
I believe for Shadows exclusion we must have an additional Cast/Receive option in “Exclude Effect”. An idea for FT ticket.

This is what I am talking about Global Cast Only and also about inability to separate Cast/Receive per individual Shadow control in Exclude Effect.

i don’t know if this works in 8 - but have you tried using a black light ? in 7, the lights are anything but realistic and natural - so i’m able to use black lights to cast shadows while not affecting the character itself.
