Environment:
-iClone Version, 8.7.1
-AI Render Plugin, Released on Oct 2, 2025
I have encountered a critical bug when trying to render videos using the AI Render plugin in iClone 8.7. The plugin fails to export specific ControlNet video files and completely stops the ComfyUI workflow.
When I select a Video Style and click ‘Preview’’ in the Video tab, the process halts, and a pop-up warning appears: “Fail to export canny result” (Please see Attached “airender error.jpg”).
When I check the AI Render History folder (Please see Attached “airender error02.jpg”), the issue becomes clear:
1] Missing ControlNet Videos: It successfully exports RenderVideo.mp4, RenderVideoNormal.mp4, and RenderVideoOpenPose.mp4. However, it completely fails to generate RenderVideoCanny.mp4 and RenderVideoDepth.mp4. Interestingly, the single image versions (RenderImageCanny, RenderImageDepth) are generated without any problem.
2] Missing JSON: Because the export process crashes at the Canny/Depth video generation stage, the essential .json workflow file is never created in the folder. (i checked “edge” in control net tabs, but no files result)
3] ComfyUI Disconnection: Without the .json file and the missing mp4 files, the task is never sent to ComfyUI, leaving the pipeline completely broken.
[Steps to Reproduce]
- Open iClone 8.7 with the AI Render plugin (Oct 2 version).
- Set up any scene.
- In AI Render, go to the Video tab. Check all Control Net options (Edge, Depth, Pose, Normal).
- Click ‘Preview’.
- The “Fail to export canny result” error will pop up, and the output folder will be missing the Canny/Depth videos and the JSON file.
This seems to be a specific video encoding/export bug between iClone 8.7.1 and this version of the AI Render plugin. Has anyone else experienced this, or is there a hotfix available?
Yup same issue here, easy to reproduce the error. Only fix I have found is to roll back iClone to a previous version. Naturally anything created in a newer version of iClone will not open in an older version so the last version where the render plug worked is where you will be stuck until the issue is resolved. If you are like myself and you only bought the Reallusion IC V8 and CC V5 package for the AI render pipe well based on past performance and personal experience with Reallusion this is probable end of the line for the AI render pipe. I suggest backing up and backing up to several different drives and locations for when it’s gone from github or hugginface the RL AI render beta will be but a memory. All that said, if truly yiu wish to delve into AI rendering there are ways more in depth complex and labourious but if this is your art then you need to study your render engine. Consider iClone is but an input source. All iClone ads is a single image and a video to guide the animation. There are good controllNets for comfyUi far superior use them. Simply render your animation from iCLne nothing special just the stalk iClone render. Use the first video frame in an image to image workflow, like flux, or Z-image or any sd sdxl and roll go to Vegas and roll the dice (Generate till you finds that will do ) . open your video to video workflow, add your first image and your guidance video, set the parameters video (the video from iClone) set up the frame rate and frame size and choose your output format. If FFMPEG installed on system there are many more to choose from. Myself I am working towards an image sequence output workflow (needs less vram) but that is up to you. It is after akk your art and you can do what you will. Anyway, that’s the fix for me roll back iCLone. Oh speaking of art, if you wish to keep your art, it is best practice to read the end user agreement(EULA) of the AI model you choose to use. The models are open source but some come with delightfull leagal caviots. Good luck.
This is not correct. The AI Render that was published was a Beta version. An updated AI render, developed with NVidia, has been announced some time ago, and will be part of an iClone 8 update.
Nice to hear almost astonishing but then this is a third party reallusion partnership. I base findings on past actions of reallusion forgive my trepidations. So where is this new plugin? There is need for it now. Perhaps a one could narrow it down to a year to be released in. As is said in the movie industry “show me, don’t tell me” we I a lawyer in court my statement would be “prove it”. This thread is almost one year old and there has been little to no movement. NVIDIA is dragging it’s legs on this public service project meanwhile in the Ukraine they push out new software every sixty days for their drones. Iran broke under financial duress is able to rebuild it’s drone fleet under the ever watchful eye of the world. After sixty years in business I know, had I let my customers hang for six months, they would have left and never come back. That is no way to treat a customer, for the one thing needed to be in business is a customer. I da not involve myself in these self help groups, I view these forums as a way for the seller to offload their after sales responsibilities. Don’t bother objecting, I observed, deduced and concluded based on performance. This poor person posted for help, no one responded until I said something. A simple sorry dude, don’t know what to tell ya, or perhaps a carefully crafted response from legal via communications would have given some solace. But no that may be cause for a law suit but something should have been said. Now this person abandoned has left, may never peruse the art again and that is sad. What’s more this possibly was one of many save that this person mustered up the courage to post something despite the fear of ridicule. In case it is unclear, unless I see movement on this pipeline plugin there remains no choice but to bail on the project and build my own. Now I do not want to see anything about minimum video card restriction like NVIDIA like to stack the deck. NVIDIA tried that trick with their blender plug in, oh boy the blender download servers are still burning from the rush to download that puppy.
Publish this or no, I care not. but this is for you from a long time customer.
