[Ask] Custom Character rig not working properly in Cartoon Animator

Hi, I created a PSD file of a character in Clip Studio Paint and set up the character based on the Reallusion tutorial for creating a G3 PSD Character in Photoshop. Here is a link to the video I am referring to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FmcgN47Mo0

I referred to the template on the wiki and the video for the layer names, bone, and character setup. I also included some drawings that are different from the video.
However when I tried importing the character into Cartoon Animator 5, the whole character does not appear to show up, just the shades and a few bone layers. I tried renaming the layers of the PSD file more than once, rearranging the bone positions, closing and reopening the Cartoon Animator 5 software, and updating the file of the character, but still face the same issues. I do not know what I am doing wrong.

I attached an image of how the character looks when imported in Cartoon Animator 5 to this post below.

  1. Is there a tutorial video from Reallusion that shows what steps I could take to fix this issue and prevent similar issues from happening?
  2. Is there another template that I should follow and a certain way the layers should be named when creating a character like this based on the character in the Reallusion Video that I linked? If not then that is fine and I will try to figure it out.

Thank you.

Hi…

Can you post a screenshot or video link with the RLImageV2 group open and showing where you have placed the bitmaps. It may be they have been wrongly placed. Thanks.

Hi, thank you and you are welcome. Here is a link to the video that shows the layers. Link to Vid

Thank you for supplying the video.

Looking at the structure of your PSD there appears many issues such as wrongly named layers and groups, duplicate layers, and most of the bitmaps look blank from the video (but this may be down to video resolution and my eyesight).

I would advise starting with the front or side PSD template available HERE but do not rename or add any additional groups or layers. Just simply replace the existing dummy bitmaps with your own bitmaps as shown in the first part of the tutorial video.

I would also concentrate on the main body parts such as Hip, Shank, Arms and Legs first. Then once you have confirmed these are opening in CTA5 correctly you can move on to the more detailed face and hands.

Overall if you stick to using the templates as they are, and don’t make any changes to the overall structure or rename anything, then you should find the process works perfectly.

You are welcome and thank you. I tried naming the layers based on the ones in the video and template on the wiki page. I will try to make changes. Thank you so much for all of your help and for the information as well. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi I tried making changes, however when I import the file into Cartoon Animator 5 it takes so long to load that the software freezes. I saved new versions of the file as well and am still faced with the same issue. I did make sure the software was up to date. I also tried importing the sample file and the program has been crashing. I will still try to figure it out.

Update: I figured out another way to get it to work.
