Hi all, this is something I’ve been working on for the past 4 years or so. It’s a mixture of live action (Virtual production in Unreal) and 3D animation created in Iclone and Character Creator. The 3D content starts at around the 14 minute mark of this episode, with more to come in the next. Would love to hear your thoughts
While the entire thing is visually impressive and shows how much effort was put into this, it does not entirely gel for me:
- The human actors clash a little with the virtual environment, because they are “real” and the environment, while looking good, is not quite as real. This is somewhat like putting a real photograph in an otherwise stylized animation, which I find usually find quite jarring.
- Also in the first part, there is a little too of much volumetric lighting and other effects for my taste (perhaps to help with the integration of the people with the virtual sets?)
- The animated sequence seems more “homogeneous” for lack of a better word. I thought the interaction between the two characters in the animated sequence worked better than that in the first part (which seems weird, since they were “real” in the first 14 minutes or so).
- While the whole fantasy/medieval setting is not really up my alley, I think I would have preferred the entire thing to be either in the first style or the second but not both. But then again, I’m probably not the target audience for this. Also, I only watched this particular episode (since you asked for feedback), so I have no additional knowledge of these characters or the previous story (which I assume there is) which may also have something do with it.
Having said that, I want to congratulate you and the others who created this for the dedication and work that went into such a webseries. I have a hard time dedicating 4 days to any one project/endeavor, let alone 4 months or years.
Great feedback, thank you
How do you make the fight scenes look so good? I try to make them in Iclone and its a difficult sloppy mess that never turned out how i envisioned it. Like the program fights me. Is this all keyed frame by frame or something? Edit: Also I should mention I find this really well done.
Superb.
Hiya, I was lucky enough to have a hand to hand fight animation package available on the marketplace, but there was a fair amount of work to change some of the fistfight motions to swordfight motions, and blend all the different moves together. Theres a reason they both get disarmed reasonably quickly
Still it was well done. My fight scenes are no where near that level and it still takes me forever. So I feel like I may be doing something wrong. Keep it up!
Really, really well done,
