Hello, I have purchased your iClone8 package and CC4 package and even purchased a membership. I am making an independent game, but when I search for some CC4 and iClone tutorials on youtube, I always see them complaining about license-related issues in the comments. So far, I have spent a lot of money to buy your content, including action packs and an Apocalypse Combo. I want to confirm what I can do and whether I will continue to buy your products in the future. I hope you can give me a definite and unambiguous answer.
1: If I use the standard license of Apocalypse Combo, which contains many clothes, can I make different characters in CC4 and freely combine clothes to wear, some of which may be plot-related characters and some NPCs in the scene, and put them in the game? They will not be customized by players in the game, but I will output fixed characters to enrich my game content. For example, in different level environments, I need to change the character to a set of clothes that match the scene. When the level is switched, the character automatically wears the appearance I arranged. I just need to make sure that I can output fixed different character appearances! If not, just tell me whether it is or not, why it is not, and what is wrong with my operation. Don’t let me read your posts, I don’t have time, I should get the corresponding after-sales service for the things I bought.
2: I use CC4 to make many characters, and the outfits are also purchased from the content store. Here I take Apocalypse Combo as an example. So when I make some short films, are I also restricted by the output of multiple characters?
3: I declare again that all my needs are not to use CC4 to make different characters for players to buy or to become purchasable content in the game, but to export the characters I have made for players from CC4 and put them in the game scene. They cannot make any changes to the characters, and some are even just NPCs. So will the standard license I hold work?
4: I noticed that Apocalypse Combo contains some ready-made character outfits. Can I directly export them and use them in my game or short film? Please refer to the third point I mentioned for the statement.
Finally, thank you for taking the time to answer my questions, because your reputation is limited to the power and ease of use of the software, but the fact is that I have seen too many people recently have great opinions about you regarding licensing issues and even do not recommend you. I want to know whether my money is spent correctly, or I should choose other products.
If the clothing is to be used on multiple characters in a commercial game, then you will need the Extended License version of the content pack. The Standard License only allows the content to be used on one character only in a commercial game.
Please Note: If your game is to be non-commercial then the Standard License is sufficient.
All content is royalty free for use in video form. So you can freely make short films for commercial use without any licensing restrictions.
Same answer as for question 1.
In a commercial game then you will need the Extended License version of the pack as answered in question 1. In short films the content can be used royalty free as answered in question 2.
I hope this helps. Please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks for your prompt reply. I have no problem with the understanding of non-commercial. I can use it freely in the released free games or short films with commercial creation, right?
Then, back to the Apocalypse Combo I just mentioned, there are different clothes in it, which means that I can only wear these clothes to the same character, but not to other characters I made. For example, there are 8 different sets of clothes in the set. I can change different clothes for this specific character (protagonist) in different environments and arrange them in the game scene, but I can’t let 8 characters of different body shapes wear a set of clothes each. Is this understanding correct? If so, is this package misleading? Because it also contains 8 different characters, which means that the standard license I hold cannot arrange these 8 characters in the game. According to what you said, there is no restriction that it can only be used in non-commercial games or commercial films?
Regarding non-commercial use, yes you can freely use content purchased with the Standard License.
For your Apocalypse Combo question, with the Standard License you can use each item from the pack on one character only. So for example one shirt could be used on character A, and another shirt from the pack could be used on character B and so on. However, the important restriction is that once the shirt is used on character A or B they can’t be used on any further characters including NPC’s.
To be able to use the content freely on as many characters as you wish, and in as many games as you wish, then you will need the Extended License version of that content.
