Some of you May have seen what the latest
“Sora 2” is doing with photorelistic AI video.
But I predict 2D ,cartoon animation
(including Anime)will soon be dominated by AI
Yesterday I grabbed some still images from My last Graphic Novel and uploaded them to Grok AI ,from Elon Musk,( Free tier BTW) the videos it generated were amazing as the AI analyzes the facial expressions , body pose language and creates a video that depicts a short story clip of what it “thinks” is “happening” in the still Illustration.
No text prompts were even used here
In these videos I just uploaded image of very attractive female Character from the Graphic Novel with pleasant facial expressions and here is the result
obviously I edited the clips together to make to final videos

Here are some still images from Cartoon Animator
that I animated with AI.
Note how smooth the motion is with Character rotations
and animated hair movement

This is so impressive. I hadnt really played with Grok, but this has inspired me. I am impressed that Grok lets you add voices too. I will be playing with htis much more. Thanks for sharing. I love that now I can choose to do some of the animation myself and then let A.I. assist in other shots.

Do you find the output size of your videos from Grok are big enough? Yours seem really good in the samples you posted. I seem to be only getting very small file dimensions. Id like 1920x1080.

Hi Garry
I used this FREE AI upscaling site to upscale my vids to 2k or 4K
There is a 5 second limit ,if you stay in the free tier, but the free tier of GROK is about six seconds so not much loss.
Yes this is very exciting for us 2D animators!!
here is a series concept trailer I made with Grok and still art from my Graphic novel
and more animation made from single still shots
Here is a still image from Cartoon Animator
where I asked Grok to make him a stand up comedian ranting about the high costs of fast food.
And another random still image
made into an instant youtube short with Grok
Just few hours work
(Mostly post editing)
I think reallusion could dominate the 2D animation space with the right AI tools.

Corel’s paintshop pro’s last release ( 2023 ) is also pretty good for image upscaling, they added ai to the process. They often post bundles on humble bundle where you can get a suite of useful tools for a bargain price.

There are several FREE online AI upscalers for both stills and short videos
I actually have topaz gigapixel AI upscaler
over on my Imac that is sometimes use for offline batch processing.
but Honestly 95 percent of this process with Grok done on my Android phone with only the final edit done in Davinci.
When I retire, in January, I plan to go all in on AI for my animated filmmaking,
My days of using traditional 3DCC’s will be over.

My children are 90’s era kids
I remember watching many of these cartoons with them.
Now I can “renew” them with AI
Imagine a future version Reallusion CTA with the ability to turn any 2D PNG into an animated cartoon character like this.
No rigging required.

Here are some CTA content assets “animated” with Grok AI
This looks great. Once we get more precide control over what our actors can do in each scene, this will be game changing.

I am using Grok exclusively as my 2D animation software and i’m still on the free tier.
(May upgrade soon though)
you can “direct it” pretty effectively ,with prompts, already and even if your lipsinc is not exact you can replace that dialogue in post with better AI voice overs because cartoon lipsinc animation does not have to be so visually exact.
the contextual emotional expression in the faces and the correct casting of shadows the hair AND cloth physics as well as auto animation of scene element like computer screens or the flame in a fire place wind on bushes and trees
It’s whole new way of creating 2D animation.
And you need not abandon your exiting CTA content as you can animate any element from CTA for a Hybrid workflow from rendered stills including characters doing things not possible in CTA.
