My official 2 cents on ai - I’ve noticed the topics popping up on AI so i thought I’d chime in on my own space, being that its so controversial and all, - and those who know me, controversy is my playground lol
- I have not changed, i simply have no reason at this time to fight lol
My 2 cents on ai, anyone can scribble text on a piece of paper, anyone can boil water or heat up a pan, anyone can grab a brush dip it in paint, and splash it against something, anyone can make sounds with their voice, anyone can type word salad into a computer, anyone can move their bodies, this doesn’t make them creative, or artists, or singers or dancers, or poets, or chefs etc …
Cavemen used berries and cave walls to make crude illustrations of what they experienced in life, and with great patience and lots of personal saliva - lol - made meaningful images that lasted for thousands of years and immortalized their ideas and expressions for thousands of years in colleges, museums and photographs - DaVinci, painted on cathedral ceilings and artists and theologians alike embraced and immortalized his work as well, Michelangelo saw angels in rocks!! -twirls fingers around ear- but he had Medici’s support and also joined the ranks of icons in creative history. Dude, Picasso painted with house paint! and Van Gough cut off his ear and painted stuff you’d see in a pre-k art class, lets call a spade a spade - but they all had a story, and meaning behind their work…they expressed their vision with whatever mediums available to them, ears and rocks not withstanding! and made them timeless - it was meaningful and immortal in concept expression and idea.
We live in an age that computers are the contemporary tools of choice, and I’m sure at one time cavemen were trying to make people who used dried animal skins feel like wusses that were changing the vibe of spitting your face off for days in a cave to immortalize your work, or someone said, carving rocks isn’t art, it’s making furniture - that’s not a picture ? - and how people who used Protools said Logic was not a real software to make music on, while a blues band from 1900’s might look at people using tech like some digital hippies who will never understand the energy of people in a dimly lit room, no technology, drinking moonshine while someone played a bass made from a washtub a broom stick with a stretched bicycle tire and someone sold their soul to someone just so they could pretend to be the best blue geetarist in town lol while jimmy played a mean vaudeville piano - drums ? bah, we had tap dancers keeping us on beat! we had people tap dancing barefoot, on sand and glass covered stages, for 15 hours, and they loved it! - that was Real music!!
Anyone can type wordsalad into a computer
But only I can design a gaisha in CC 3, where we had to edit our images for the right look for 15 hours, barefoot, in the Gimp or Paintshop Pro crashing every 20 minutes and we loved it!!
This is real art!! because it means something to me, it has a meaningful story and history to it, from an album cover of a song i put out over 10 years ago. Its not on a rock, or cathedral ceiling, or a cave, or dead animal skin, its all digital. If you think using AI as a paintbrush isn’t a contemporary form of expressing art, then you really have no clue what art is to begin with and your insights are irrelevant, and i’ll tell your parents, your teacher, your neighbors, your clients and anyone else that supports these absurd ideas that they have NO idea of what they are talking about and have no business defining what art is…and yes, some people type word salad into computers think its art, trying to put the nft days behind me tyvm! and some people sing off key and think they are great artists, cue autotune and some people can’t even boil eggs but think they are chefs…it’s been like that since the cavemen era lol
