Replica Studios shut down.

Yeah, for my little hobby projects (if and when I get back to them), I’d rather deal with AI than with real people. Besides, I don’t like to ask people to do free favors for me and my stuff doesn’t get enough views so that the “exposure” would make it worthwhile for aspiring voice actors to donate their time and effort. Moreover, I’m not much of a planner and don’t work with a script or so, so that would make working with “humans” in an organized/coordinated manner also more difficult.
Things might be different, if I had a steady pool of “talent” (friends, family) that would be interested in doing voice-over work and be willing to accommodate my chaotic style, but I don’t.

Same here, particularly certain “types” that may not share my world view and may chaffe at recording certain dialogue.

This was a big problem in the anime industry
where you had certain American activists who were hired to do english Dubs of popular anime series
and were actually changing dialogue to be more inline with their western/leftists political ideologies
But now AI voice generation has become so good just in the last 2 years that the anime studios
are using AI for their english dubs.

11 labs now has a beta version 3 of their text to speech.
Which now allows you to add specific emotions before phrases, including sarcasm, laugh, giggle, whisper etc. I’m really impressed, even with V2 which I’ve been using for my current project.

It was way cheaper for me to use someone on Fiverr than it was to use Replica Studios and their new prices. Heck, better value than any other services I seen, in the long run. If I have to use AI, than I would do it locally with Namigen, does the job.

yes I’ve used Fiverr before too, very happy with the voice actors I’ve used.
However now that AI has improved so much (that it’s difficult to distinguish now from real actors), I like the ability to fine tune the nuance, tone etc to how I want it. It’s not always easy to do with a real voice actor without multiple takes. And the ability to try and change lines instantly, without having to resubmit the changes and wait. Most of my scripts are only a guide, I tend to tweak them a lot along the way.

But definitely Fiverr is generally cheap, the actors I’ve used are very accommodating and it is good to support other people in their field of interest.

Sad news but seems to me Reallusion might do us a favour and takeover replica resources and incorporate them into Iclone as a standard feature so this important aspect of movie making is an integral part of Iclone. Not a paid service extra or plug in.

Not likely as these services have a huge computational back end
that have ongoing costs to maintain
Unlike some new “code it and leave it in”, program feature in the core Iclone application
These ongoing server costs that would have to be passed on to the end users.

This is the exact reason the Daz has recently abandoned their onsite “Daz studio AI” generator as most people were using far better off site AI art generators and refused to pay monthly for Daz’s mediocre onsite system.

There is a reason why Replica folded. It became too expensive and it didn’t really keep up with offerings such Eleven Labs, which is constantly inovating. So RL would be betting on a dead horse. And as AutoDidact indicated, server costs are substantial and would have to be charged to the users.

Wishful thinking then ? Thanks for your explaining whats involved.
