Moving my Custom Content in Character Creator 5

I have a dedicated drive for Reallusion Custom and Template Directories. The drive is almost full so I wanted to move my Custom Content to another drive and then repoint it in the Settings.

Currently the Custom is on D:/Reallusion/Custom/Character Creator 3 Custom and there is no issue.

I created a folder on another drive M:/Reallusion/Custom/Character Creator 3 Custom and then I copied the entire folder contents to M folder just mentioned.

When I put that path in Settings, it adds an extra folder which I can’t stop - so it lists it as M:/Reallusion/Custom/Character Creator 3 Custom/Reallusion Custom…so the Reallusion Custom at the end gets added.

Therefore, I can’t get CC5 to recognize this location. To try and outsmart it, I created a folder inside the Character Creator 3 Custom called Reallusion Custom and tried moving the content there. But it still is not recognized.

Can anyone help me figure out what I am doing wrong?

I want to repeat this for my iClone 7 content as well and move it to drive M but I assume I’ll have the same issue.

Hi Alley,

Ideally, you should add the new path through Settings. Once added, the categories within that folder will appear automatically. Please refer to Images 1 and 2.

You can then switch between the two folders using the drop-down menu above the category list. Please refer to Image 3.

Thank you but as it turns out, it was much more complicated. The file structures for CC3 are different for CC5 (apparently) so I actually got some advice from AI to fix things. For one, I couldn’t just move things from Character Creator 3 Custom to another folder inside it created called Reallusion Custom. It still would not “see” the folders. What ended up working once I moved the folders to where they should be for CC3 structure, i.e. avatar/character do not get structured the same way in CC5 as they did in CC3 - in any case, after a lot of trial and error, and then finally using the “Smart Import Custom Assets” - I finally got things sorted for the most part.

Now I have to tackle iClone Custom folders - hopefully it will go easier but everything takes a very long time because I have so many custom files (712 GB for CC and now 2.12 TB for iClone).

Hi Alley,

To clarify, are you currently using CC5 and trying to transfer your CC3 custom content to CC5?

If so, you may need to manually copy the files from CC3 to CC5 because the folder structures differ between the two versions. Please note that the default Custom folder location in CC5 cannot be changed. However, you can add a new content path in CC5 and use it to store your existing CC3 custom files.

Once the files have been moved to the folder linked through the new content path, CC5 should be able to recognize them.

Thanks!

It is resolved now for CC3 custom which are now accessible in CC5 and reside on a different drive. As you said, the file structure is different but it’s ok now.

I have not done iClone 7 custom yet - hopefully it goes smoothly.
