Importing Posed Models into Unreal Engine 5 from Character Creator 5

Hi there - I’ve been poising and setting facial expressions on my characters in Character Creator 5, and trying to use the Auto 2.0 tool to move them over to Unreal for rendering. I am having the damnedest time exporting. All the instructions seem to be for animations, which I do not need - these are just static renders. Sometimes, I manage to export an FBX that has an animation, and sometimes I can’t for the life of me.

Can someone give me some pointers on how to best import from Character Creator 5 into Unreal Engine 5.7 for rendering purposes, and maintain the facial expression and pose I’ve set in CC5? Thank you in advance!

Hi…

Have you followed the tutorial below. This should help with your workflow.

Unreal Auto Setup 2.0 New Update | CC & UE Workflow Tutorial

That specifically covers exporting an animation, and I’m not really doing that - just poses. I’ve watched it 4 or 5 times trying to figure out where I am going wrong, but can’t seem to figure out a consistent solution.

It seems like “current pose” is the setting I want on the exporter, but sometimes, setting that, I get an animation asset in the import but it has no pose data at all. Sometimes, I manage to get an animation asset with body posing, but no facial expression. It’s probably something obvious I’m missing here due to being new to the world of both CC5 and UE 5.

Hi,

For what you’re trying to do, Character Creator is mainly for character setup , while iClone is the right tool if you need detailed posing adjustments and especially facial animation/editing workflows.

Still, if you encounter issue despite following the CC tutorial to export the animation, please share:

  • Your system info (CPU/GPU/RAM, Windows version, CC5 version, Unreal version).
  • Your workflow steps.
  • If you’re willing, the CC/iClone project file (or a minimal version) so we can reproduce it exactly.
