iClone 8 crashing (PC restart) since last update

Hi everyone,

Since the latest update of iClone 8, I’ve been experiencing regular crashes that cause my entire PC to restart. The crashes usually happen right after saving a project or when searching/browsing assets in the integrated 3D library.

I’ve already tried several things without success:

  • Latest NVIDIA Game Ready driver (596.36)
  • Switched to Studio Driver

Interestingly, I have zero crashes when using Character Creator 5 on the same machine.

My specs:

  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3060
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
  • RAM: 32 GB
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit

Has anyone else had similar issues with iClone 8 lately? Any known solutions or workarounds?

Thanks a lot!

Can you look up the detailed crash report in the Windows Reliability Monitor and maybe copy and paste it here?

If there is a problem with your Windows installation, you can also try to repair it via Dism.exe and sfc. You can find the steps here:

Hi Sophus,

Thanks for your reply.

I couldn’t find the Reliability Monitor, but I checked in Event Viewer and here’s the detailed crash report from the latest incident (Event ID 41):

The crashes are now happening more randomly, even while simply working on animations, not only after saving or browsing the 3D library. The crashes have become quite random. Sometimes I can work for over an hour without any issue, and other times I get a crash after just 10 minutes even while simply working on animations.

Do you think this looks like an iClone 8 compatibility issue with NVIDIA drivers, or is there still something wrong on my side?

Thanks a lot for your help!

It should be visible if you click on the Windows Start button and type Reliability Monitor.

Have you tried the Dism.exe and sfc command combo?

Besides a Windows, driver or iClone bug, it could also be caused by your hardware. Do you have a way to check temperatures while working in iClone? Or maybe it’s a problem with your power supply?

Hi Sophus,

I just had another crash without iClone even open. I was only playing a small Unity WebGL game on itchio while listening to music on YouTube in the background.

It looks like the issue might not be specific to iClone after all. I now suspect YouTube could be a contributing factor, especially with the current bug that’s been widely reported (many users complaining about YouTube causing extremely high CPU usage, freezing tabs, and slowing down browsers, it started a couple of days ago).

Sorry for the trouble and thanks for your help!

Just wanted to concur that iClone 8 is crashing constantly for me and causing my system to reboot. To make sure it was not just my current project, I tried also rendering some projects that were no issue last week and they also caused my entire system to crash. It’s when I am attempting an iray render FYI. I have everything else closed so all resources are dedicated to iClone and it still happens.
