Character Creator 4.52 Official Issues Thread

@Sp3c1alk

I believe your Scene is too big for your GPU vRAM.
Iray would be very slow.
I also believe that 5 GB HDD space could be too low for the temporary files.
Maybe try clearing space and changing those paths to another drive.

I am not at my Desktop and due to lack of Iray plugin anymore i cannot check personally.

I believe the answer lies in your steps.
The replace part seems to be root cause.

@Sp3c1alk

Alley seem to face issues due to her current workflow of replacing character and Iray material no applying.

And For you , CC4 Also crashes occasionally.
I would try for a reinstall, and have more HDD space.

Also i wouldn’t use Iray for new version due to it being discontinued.
Still i guess if it can work for stills then one can continue using it.

All the best guys.

Typical CC behavior lately with Iray (and not only). Crashes 4 out of 5 times.
Freshly loaded. Plenty of drive space, cleaned temp folder, load of VRAM.

It seems Iray plugin is culprit.
It has no compatibility with latest version.
And it seems even merely having it installed. Creates issues ?

P.S. I dont have Iray or its Materials installed and no crashes.
Still i have very less experience than You guys.

In my personal experience everything under about 20-15 GB of free space can cause weird issues on Windows 10. I would conclude that Windows 11 needs even more free space. So having just 5 GB is definitely critical. Windows is moving a lot of temporary data in the background and the hardware also tries to protect the SSD by not always writing data to the same memory addresses because they have a limited number of write cycles. If the SSD is nearly full this probably will not work efficiently.

I have a small netbook with just 30 GB of storage and it becomes basically unusable and super slow if I install Windows 10 on it because it will only have 2-3 GB left. Works fine with Linux or size reduced custom Windows installs, because then I still have about 10 GB free space.

I have well over 200 GB free space. Last time I did these type of renders was mid-December. Been working on other things. So was there an update since mid-December that might have changed everything?

I have used Omniverse and I get they want to push us into that but it has some limitations. For example, with iray, I can simulate the movement of the cloth and capture an image of it. With Omniverse, you cannot. It’s also a bit more of a procedure and frankly, the renders do not always look good for the 4up people - a lot of trial and error. But I guess I am wondering what they did to create this problem. Maybe they want to discourage the use of iray. :disappointed_relieved:

As iray automatically loads, how do you remove it to stop interfering (assuming we can) - I wonder if Windows 11 would make any difference.

If you wish not to have Iray cache preload with character, then close “Iray Render” tab, restart CC and load character. Iray cache will never load for any character. Obviously you will not be able to render with Iray. And ticket needs to be opened with FT about the Iray cache preload crashes.

There: FT 11757

A 15 Gb HD is too small?

Im also kinda concerned I paid $95 for IRay and i cant use it. I understand noe updating it. But removing compatability is not cool.

@Sp3c1alk

This particular issue is happening with Alley and 4u2ges and they have ample space .
Still the amount of Space for temporary usage could depend on various factors.

If you had no problems prior to this then hardware is not issue here.

When deleting faces, CC randomly turns parts of the mesh or the whole mesh WHITE.

Seems viewport display looses some maps while working with Mesh Edit And Skin Weights dialogs sometimes.
While it’s certainly a bug, the way to recover meantime is to “refresh” viewport.
Easiest is to enable and disable Auxiliary Light.

Ah, interesting ! Though The Mesh editor seems to be quite buggy anyhow currently, today it just didnt want to hide or delete faces, they all kept coming back after closing the editor. Even while editing they re-appeared randomly while moving on to other verticies. Perhaps hiding and deleting faces at the same session doesnt work together. IIRC this was better before 4,52.

So I am still having multiple problems with iray and thank you 4u2ges - by closing iray, it’s not interfering. I opted to do my renders in omniverse but it has issues with characters as well.
a) Hair doesn’t alway render right;
b) Sometimes character comes in bald (random)
c) The eyes look weird, my solution to close them or turn the head
4) You can’t show the cloth movement as you could in iray.

While it creates some nice looking renders, and scenes seem to have no issues, rendering people, particularly the 4 up poses we have to do has some issues as mentioned above.

Would be nice to know if they intend to fix this or are updates they are making for other aspects of the software causing the issue for iray (but if iray is unsupported, maybe there is no intention to adjust anything to make it work).

In any case, even with iray turned off, there are substantially more crashes with the software these days.

@Alley
If you render your product promos with iray or Omniverse, you should indicate that in the renders so people who use the iClone render engine exclusively realize that this may no be the same look they can get out of these assets.

And on a personal note: I would like to see wireframe renders included with the promos; for cloth simulation mesh topology is important to me and now I always have to download the trial version to check the mesh myself prior to purchase.

Hey,

Did you update the Ominverse via Github?

After Installing Omniverse by their Github method.
I get error that iclone is not compatible with Installed version of Omniverse :slight_smile:

P.S.
Darn Iclone renderer rocks because of the simplicity.

Edit.
Got it working with the 2023 installer as mentioned in the official tutorial.

Ok, will try to do this in future. Thanks.
