Character Creator 4.52, 4.53 and 4.54 Official Issues Thread

For making faceted models appear smooth, use the normal smoothing. The normal smoothing and mesh smoothing are different things.

The mesh smoothing is a realtime GPU based sub-division. Manual page:

Instead of improving CC Standard characters conversion routine to Humanoids (for further customization) RL does everything possible to mess things up with every update.

  1. I used to Export a Standard CC character, import it right back as Humanoid and get AT LEAST all the textures intact as PBR (I am not even going to mention THIS). That is no longer the case. Metallic, Roughness, AO are no longer going through! Why??

  2. I tried an alternative approach - converted to Humanoid with Optimize and Decimate > Custom (I rarely use it). First, Convert button is not available until you remove some options. I did uncheck 5 toes bones. Conversion went fine and even body materials converted to SSS (although Eye Occlusion and Eye tear-line are gone - really bad!). Exported and imported back and got slouchy shoulders and obviously Metallic, Roughness, AO are no longer there.
Tried with Blender Pipeline, got all textures (although some parameters are not right and character is all shiny). But slouchy shoulders are still there…

How do we supposed to customize characters with this??

@4u2ges - Thank you for the feedback. I will pass this on to the dev team to review. I’ll update again after the dev team have had time to check the issues you mention.

When using ‘High’ render quality, the scene viewport has ghosting issues?

The same thing happens with Custom and if you turn on ‘Glow Map’ and / or ‘HDR’

There’s something wrong with the post effect, it’s at quarter resolution or something.

Here’s a video of the issue:

Also: just tried to render a video and this is what I ended up with?

This was using the following settings:

  • UHD
  • Hardware VIdeo encoder
  • Final Render
  • AntiAliasing 3x3
  • popVideo render: original size
  • Reduce Color Banding

I suspect It’s the antialiasing causing the issues?

Very strange, have never seen this before and I render with CC regularly

using 4.53.4025.1

Disable DLSS. Quite useless feature which cause all kind of problems with renders.

Is that something I can do in CC? Or do I do a driver override

It’s a check box in IC/CC Preferences.

Perfect, thanks!

Character Creator 4.54 has now been released. Please continue to use this thread to discuss any bugs or issues found, but please remember to report them in the Feedback Tracker first. Thank you.

I have just installed cc4 and iclone 8 on a new machine, which includes an RTX5090.

Neither CC4 nor Iclone8 will launch. Just a splash screen “please wait” then it vanishes and nothing happens.

Reinstalled everything. Updated GFX drivers. Rolled back GFX drivers. Updated windows. Turned plugins on and off one by one. Restarted the computer 119 times (seriously).

The app is set to use the GFX card for graphics (not trying to load the integrated one by mistake). Compatibility, run as admin achieve nothing.

Made a support ticket but previous experience means my hopes are not high.

Can anybody confirm this software actually works with RTX5090s?

@adamwilliamwork

Sorry to hear you are having these problems on such a high end machine. If you have contacted Support already then hopefully they know of a fix for issues with the new RTX5000 series cards.

Alternatively, perhaps someone with a RTX5090 can offer some advice which can help you get up and running.

Thanks Pete. Yes, it is very disappointing. I have tried running CC4 with every GFX driver released since January 25, including the latest ones of course, both studio and gameready.

Maybe it’s time to move on to other software that is better supported.

Your choice, of course. However, be aware that some other software companies also appear to have problems adapting their software for the RTX 50xx series (or have done so only very recently), so before you seriously contemplate such a move, make sure that whatever software you choose does indeed support the RTX 50xx series.

For anybody finding this via google (now or in the deep future, hello future person) Blender, Maya, 3DSMax, ZBrush and Substance Designer all work fine with my card (RTX 5090). The problem is only with Reallusion software and it doesn’t even produce an error code, so I am totally at the mercy of their support.

So far their support has suggested deleting temp folders (I mentioned I had already done this in my ticket). It didn’t work.

I am a big fan of CC4 and Iclone8. When the software works I think it offers subtle advantages over the other pipelines for specific applications. Not a hater at all.

Being totally incompatible with a 5090, regardless of driver (we tried literally every driver available from NVidia) and not even producing an error code is pretty bad. But one could expect it, clashes like this happen all the time. The part that really disappoints me is the support, which ignores you for two days then tells you to reboot your machine, or delete a temp folder, or make sure your screen is plugged in.

Many people who use these tools will also want to have high-end hardware so they can get the best out of them. If Reallusion isn’t prepared to support certain hardware, they should just say so. If they are, they should let us know what hotfixes are in the works and what we can do in the meantime to get around the issue.

Not trying to start an argument, just putting this here for searchers.

Check the Windows Reliability Monitor for a crash description and copy paste it here. Maybe we can find something out.

I’m using a 5090 graphics card, and both iClone 8 and Character Creator 4 run normally (GFX is updated to the latest version).

Here are my computer specs for your reference:

  • GeForce RTX 5090
  • Intel Core Ultra 9 285

It doesn’t appear that the issue is related to the graphics card. If you have any additional details, we can assist further in investigating the problem.

Not all users are interested in animation, nor are we especially wealthy. Some of us want to use CC as a reference source for illustration. To that end, the ability to have two or three figures in the same window would be amazing! Also, avoiding the $700+ cost of iClone and the wasted brain cells learning it would be very helpful. Thank You!
